Dec. 21.?An unknown man attempted to assassinate Probate Judge Catting, In the Criminal Court building elevator this morning. Two shots were Sred, both missing the judge. Tiie would-be assassin was arrested. Approaching Jiidge Cutting, he said: "If you don't open that estate, I will kill you." A by-stander knocked the muzzle of the revolver upwards and both bullets passed through the car roof. The prisoner is said to be apparently Insane, fifty vpars of age, and well dressed. Tito name given to the police Is Frank S. Ellerbrook, German American, residing at Elghtteen, North California avenue. He claims to have had an estate In probate court eight years aud being unable to get satisfaction from Judge Cutting, decided to remove hiru and get a Judge that would give him some action. The mob met with but lit 4? the jail and. the police permitted: t + Mm* p**J? ot * EDUCATIONAL COAL DEAL LAST OF THE COKING COAL ACREAGE IN THE "OLD CONNELLS VILLE DISTRICT" BOUGHT BY THE SOUTH FAYETTE COKE COMPANY AT UNIONTOWN, PITTSBURG, Dec. 21.?The last of the coking coal acreage in the "old Connellsvllle district" was sold yesterday to the South Fayette Coke Co. of Fayette county, and a plant of 50 ovens will be constructed at once at a cost of about $160,000. The new ovens It Is promised will be the best ever erected In the Connellsvllle district. The plot purchased by the company embraces 17% acres and the coal vein lr many places crops out to the surface. It adjoins the property purchased by the company some time ago, bat the tract being too small to successfully operate n plant the officers of the company decided to wait until It secured litis new acreage. If the weather continues moderate the company expects to hnve the new plant in operation bynext spring. The sale was made yesterday by Wade H. Echard, of Uniontown, after the plot had been surveyed and the ccal veins tested by the engineers of the South Fayette Coke Company. It was found that the entire acreage was r!ch In tlie best kind of coking coal autl the deal was quickly consummated.
