Su I perjntendent William M. Kennedy pre I sided. Several matters were diBcuas' ed. Amng the questions that claim ed the attention of the boards were: 1. The laying of levies. This was discussed briefly by J. R. Timma, and others. The point was made that al: possible expenses be taken into ac countin fixing the l*vy, and that a margin be provided for unlooked foi items. 2. Salaries of teachers. This wat well treated by Dean F. B. Trotter ol the University. Joseph Hosier, ol Fairmont; W. <D. Ice. A. J. Hess and others. The necessity of increasing salaries as a preliminary to the rais ing of standards was pointed out. H was suggested that some inteliigen standard for salaries and educationa requirements for teachers foe arrived at, it being agreed that trained teach ers of successful experience should b< given more than those without cxpor iencc. In connection with this dlscussioi It was unanimous!}' voted that tin present levy limits or 12 1-2 cents ant 25 cents for the building and teacher* funds, respectively, bo raised to II cents and 35 cents. This rcsolutiot was made in view of the fact that tht present levy limits arc too low to per init boards to provide proper build ings. pay proper salaries and rcquirt high standards for teachers. It wai the intention of the members that th? legislature be afckod to change th< law. 3. Sanitation in the rural schools This vital subject was ably discusser by Deun F. B. Trotter, Supt. Hosier K. B; Carskadon. Dr. L. N. Yost, Prcs ident of the Marion ^County Board o Health; Dr. F. M. Trach, of Lincoli district; Col. T. G. Price, YV. D. Ice and others, it was the sense of th< meeting that the situation in rospce to sanitary conditions over the countj is bad. and that all possible means bt emulovnil ir> Imnrnw^ W r *w -...K'-'O ?V 4. It was agreed that the schooli of each district should begin on tin same date, If possible. This is tnadt more necessary because of the necea slty of paying- teachers on a givei date, undcr the new'lhw. The meeting adjourned at 4 o'clock all feeling that the time had beei well spent.
