Headaches, Nervousness, Sleeplessnes, Have
Never Troubled Rev. A. L Brantley Since Taking
PAINE'S CELERY COMPOUND.
The prompt, effective, and hone3t
! results that are alwavs obtained bv
the users of Paine's Celery Com
pound, call forth the grateful and
unstinted praise of clergymen of all
denominations. In every parish and
district of our land, clergymen are
quietly but surely spreading the
joyful intelligence that Paine's
Celery Compound banishes ill
health and makes sick people well.
Like men and women in other
professions and in the ordinary
callings of life, church ministers
are victims of the same ailments
and diseases. When oppressed by
sufferings and agonies, it is cheer
ing to note that our clergymen have
implicit confidence and faith in Dr.
Phelps' life-giving prescription,
NEW SCANDAL
SHAKES FRANCE
Said That Carthusians Were Ex
pelled Because They Refused
To Pay.
Paris, May 14. A widespread
scandal is promised as a result of
investigations into the charge of
bribery in connection with the ex
pulsion of French religious orders.
The charge is brought against M.
Edgar Combes, son of the president
of the council.
It is made in a letter published
in The Pett Dauphinois, of Greno
ble, and reproduced in The Figaro
over the signature of M. Joseph
Besson in much the same style as
the lale M. Zola wrote his famous
letter "J' Accuse."
M. Besson affirms that the Car
thusians were expelled from France
because they would not pay a bribe
of $200,000 with which the expul
sion law introduced by the premier
was to have been circumvented. M.
Besson further declares that the
proposals for the payment of this
sum were made on behalf of M.
Edgar Combes, who was promised
a commission of $20,000 if he were
successful in persuading the monks
to pay the bribe. The offers were
made by a M. Andre Verwoort.
AMERICANS STOP PLAY
Native Manila Actors Who Profane
the Stars and Stripes Are
Driven from the Stage.
Manila, May 15. A partv of
Americans stormed the stage of the;
Libertad theater last night and j
stopped a seditious play. The piece, '
which is historical, has a climax in i
which the heroine throws the Amer-
ican flag to the ground and raises
the standard of the Katipunan '
secret society. When this scene j
was reached a score of Americans i
sprang on the fitage, routed thej
actors and smashed the furniture.:
The audience fkd. Colonel Tolen
tino, a former insurgent, who wrote
the play, probably will be prosecuted.
NERVES.
Paine's Celery Compound. Rev. A.
L. Brantley, Summertown, Ga., telle
how he was raised from a condition
of suffering and great danger:
"Before using Paine's Celery
Compound I was continually suf
fering with sick and nervous head
ache, and it was a common occur
rence for me to sleep little or none
at night. Often have I arose in the
morning with a severe headache
and inactive mind, prostrated witU
nervousness from the loss of sleep.
Now I can sleep well at night, have
an active mind, and can study tea
hours a day, while before I could
study but a short while at a time.
I certainly feel grateful for such
medicine as Paine's Celery Com
pound." - CHINESE ASK PRESIDENT
