Johnson left yester day for Savoy, Texas, with his two grandchildren, who will be given over to the care of Miss Johnson. This arrangement is in accordance with terms of Mrs. Johnson's will, which stipulates that her two little children be taken in charge by their aunt. Mr. Hodges will return in about two weeks and will take charge of and improve the property at Olmito which Mrs. Johnson had lately pur chased. Among the arrivals last evening The Herald was pleased to note Leonard Lavton. Leonard has been at Waco the past five months finishing a commercial, course at Tobev's Business college. The young man is now thoroughly equipped for a position in the busi world, being a graduate and hold ing a diploma from this well known college. Leonard is a bright young man and his diploma shows a gen eral average in all branches of 98 2-5, a record to be proud of. The Herald congratulates Leon ard on his success and wishes him well in his chosen profession. Dr. Snow, of the University of Kansas, and two other entomolo gists from that tate arrived in Brownsville last night. They im mediately struck camp about a mile from town and The Herald learns, will remain about one month, making a thorough study of insect life in this section, es pecially those species which are harmful to crop growing. The gentlemen will find pleasant in vestigation in the various forms of insect life found in the Browrfsville country, not all of which, however, are enemies to the farmer and truck grower. It may be that when the country becomes a vast area of growing fields the bugs will be forced to change their native food plants, and attack growing crops, in which case it is well to be pre pared to meet the emergency. United States Marshal Hanson was yesterday in receipt of some silver mountings for a bridle that for cost and uniqueness will prob ably not be surprassed outside the trappings of royalty. The buckles, clasps and ornaments for this in tended bridle are the gift of a friend of Capt. Hanson, Mr. K. H. Merrem, immigrant agent and inspector at Laredo, and are of solid silver from the mines of Mex ico, skillfully hand-wrought by the natives of that country; As yet the fine parts of this bridle are to be put together with the necessary leather and bits, but when this is done Marshal Hanson will be the possessor of one of the most hand some bridles yet brought to viewu- Thisf in connection with a splendid $250 saddle, also the gift of a friend up the State, will make the Marshal adequately accoutered in deed.
