He is not able to return to work yet, but is getting along as well as could be expected, consid ering the severe nature of the in jury received. Among the outgoing passengers this morning The Herald man noticed H. W. Butler, of Chicago, who has been here several days looking over the Brownsville coun try. He is a son of E. K. Butler, of Chicago, who will be remember ed as having visited this section not long since. The young man is verynuch pleased with conditions here, and his presence may result in much good to this country. , He may be termed the advance agent of between forty and fifty families of Chicago truck growers, and his re port on this section will doubtless have;:great weight in inducing their removal to the vicinity of Browns ville. There is nothing to prevent the Brownsville section from tak ing front rank as a truck growing region, and the interest manifested by such men as Mr. Eutler augurs well for the future welfare of our country. The ladies in charge request The Herald to express their thanks to Messrs. Hancock J. W. for the loan of tables, and also to Major Cook and his adjutant for the kind assistance rendered by them. A concert of more than passing interest will take place at. Mata moros on next Thursday night, which our people can not afford to forego the pleasure of attending. The event will be under the per sonal supervision of Don Jaime Nono; composer of the Mexican national air. This popular music will be rendered by some of the best 'talent among the young ladies of our sister city, and will be a musical gem. Other vocal and instrumental selections by the talent of Matamoros will be rendered, also several recitations, among the latter being a rend ition of the ''Indian Flower Girl," by Mrs. P. Merrill Griffith. A grand celebration is planned for this occasion, and a large Browns ville audience is looked for. The public generally is more or less familiar with the" compositions of Senor Nono, and will be delighted to attend a concert under his per sonal direction. PERSONALS. Old newspapers for sale here George P. Caven is registered in the city from Dallas. W. L. Stoner, a horse "buyer from Victoria, arrived in the city fast evening. Capt. Wm. Scott, of San Anto nio, is a late visitor to, Brownsville arriving last night. Prof. Barbour went out to Olmito today for a short outing. He will return on the 7:25 train. Mr. and Mrs. Martin Besteiro left this morning for an indefinite stay at Topo Chico, Mexico. Judge Stevens was an outgoing passenger this morning, after a short stay in the city on business. Misses Sylvia and Jennie Arm strong left this morning on a pleas ure trip to Corpus Christi, where they will spend a week visiting friends. H. M. Hunter, the genial St. Louis stationery drummer was among the passengers out this morning, after a few days stay in Brownsville. Mrs. J. H. Florence and children, Misses Gladys Rentfro, Hughie Florence, of Brownsville and Miss Fannie Fulton, of Rockport, will leave tomorrow for a week's stay at Padre Island. The will be accom panied by Dr. P. J. Shaver. Bernie and Gus Kowralski, and Charle3r Hanson, who have been attending A. & M. college the past term, arrived in the city last night to spend their summer vacation. C. M. Garza, who has also a been a student in college was a graduate in civil engineering, did not return but joined his father at Austin. They will probably be here today or tomorrow. Notice.
