Green, who will have charge of the plant garden, is expected to arrive tonight. Miss Mary Jones of Harlingen is in the city, the guest of her friends the'Misses Hanson. David Kowalski, son of Mr. and Mrs. Benj. Kowalski of this city, eft today for Waco, Texas, where ne will taKe a course in a wen rnown business college. David is a bngnt ooy and will no doubt make a good record. Claude Lipscomb, the nephew of W. B. Linton, who has been making his home with his uncle at Brownsville the past two years and Attending school here, has return ed to his home at Montgomery, Texas, to spend the vacation. Mrs. A. E. Burnett left today on a visit of two months to her for mer home at Fort Worth. Prof. Burnett, who is a member of the immigrant inspector's force, ex pects to follow her later, when ke will have a leave of absence. Mr. and Mrs. E. K. Goodrich and children, accompanied by "Mrs. Goodrich's brother, B: D. Newman, left today for Bloomington, Wis., to visit relatives. Messrs. A society has been organized by the benevolent people of our neigh bor city of Matamoros, under the title of "Junta Local de Auxilias,'1 which has for its object the raising of funds for the relief of the earth quake victims of the State of Guer rero, Mexico, and also to buy new instruments for the municipal band of Matamoros. The officers and members of the society comprise a number of the leading officials and citizens of the said- city. Follow ing are the officers: President, Rafael Solis; 1st "vo- cai, Lren. i,auro Villar; 2nd vo cal," Augusto Petricioli; treasurer, Guadalupe Fernandez; secretary, Judge I. C. Salazar. The society has made arrange ments to give a grand concert in the opera house of Matamoros on Thursday night of this week, in which the best local talent of both that city and Brownsville will as sist. Among those who will take part are Mrs. P. M. Griffith, Miss Felicitas Nielsen, Miss Rebecca Barragan, Miss Manuela Fernan dez and Miss Elisa Quintana, and. Juan S. Cross .of Matamoros, also MissFernande Chartron of Browns ville. - The welnknown tenor, Man uel Colso Fernandez of Matamoros, and also Renato Torreani, a well known violinist of Mexico City, will take part in the concert. The program will comprise some high-class music. The concert was originated by Mr. Torriani of Mexico, who is a fine violinist, and who will conduct the management of the entertainment.
