When the train that conveyed President Roosevelt through Vir ginia on his last trip south stop ped at Charlottesville, a negro ap proached the President's car and passed aboard a big basketful of fine fruit, to which was attached the card of a prominent grower. In course of time the orchardist received a letter of acknowledg ment from the White House ex pressing the President's apprecia tion of the gift, and compliment ing the donor upon his fruit. The recipient of the letter was, of course, greatly pleased, and, feel ing sure that his head gardener would be much interested in the letter, he read it to him. The darky who served in the capacity men tioned listened gravely, but his only comment was: "He doan' say nuthin' 'bout sendin' back de basket, do he?" Success Magazine." Deafness Cannot be Cured by local applications, as they cannot reach the diseased portion of the ear. There is only one way to cure deafness,, and that is by constitutional remedies. Deafness is caused by an inflamed con dition of the mucous lining of the Eus tachian Tube. When this tube is inflam ed you have a rumbling sound or imper fect hearing, and when it is entirely clos ed, Deafness is the resnlt, and unless the inflammation can be taken out and this tube restored to its normal condition, hearing will be destroyed forever; nine cases out of ten are caused by Catarrh, which is nothing but an inflamed condi tion of the mucous surfaces. We will give One Hundred Dollars for any case of Deafness (caused by catarrh) that cannot be cured by Hall's Catarrh Onre. Send for circulars free. F. J.CHENEY & Co., Toledo, O. DANGER SIGNAL No. 1 comes from the kidney secretions. They will warn you when the kidneys are sick. Well kidneys excrete a clear, amber fluid. Sick kidneys send out a thin, pale and foamy, or a thick, red, ill-smelling urine, full of sediment and irregular of passage. DANGER SIGNAL No. 2 comes from the back. Back pains, dull and heavy,, or sharp and acute, tell you of sick kidneys and warn you of the coming of dropsy, diabetes and Bright's disease. Doan's Kidney Pills cure sick kid neys and cure them permanently. Mrs. C. H. Blain, living out on the Bluff, Corpus CEristi, Texas, says: "My grandchild, about eight years old, commenced to be troub led by a kidney ailment about a year ago. At firs: I could not con ceive what was the matter, how ever the symptoms got more pro nounced and I watched her closely. She seemed to have no power to retain the kidney secretions and she also complained of a pain in the back of her neck and head. Procuring Doan's Kidney Pills, I was gratified to see the change for the better within a very short time. I have great "faith in Doan's Kidney Pills and can heartily endorse them." Plenty more proof like this from Brownsville people. Call at J. L Putegnat & Bro.'s drug store and ask what customers report. For sale by all dealers. Price 50 cents.
