and prosecute the "yellow fever"
liar who is trying to get up a scare
3iere because there are ja. few mild
cases of ordinary dengue fever at
Brownsville. There is nothing to
be gained by circulating such lies
while on the contrary there is
much to be lost by scaring peo
ple! Corpus Christi Caller.
Good advice, dear Caller, but
cto you know that you will have
to begin right in your own office,
with the prosecution? Not that
the Caller itself has done anything
to promote tnis anogetner un
necessary and utterly indefensible
vtscare,"- but one of that paper's
employes did assuredly warn
certain gentleman against coming
to Brownsville, because "it was
reported in Corpus Christi that
there was an epidemic of yellow
fever here.' The said typo was
not the only offender in Corpus
Christi, however, and it is to be
&oped that the others may also
profit by the Caller's hint and stop
spreading such slanderous and in
jurious rumors concerning this
town. In the case of Corpus
fChristi the work done there against
Brownsville is apt to prove
ooomerang against that place, as
many timid persons who were in
tending to attend the Epworth
encampment may stay away, on
account of the proximity of Corpus
'Chnsti to Brownsville; that is, if
tthey have gotten wind of the false
reports that were spread in Corpus
about the epidemic here. The
people of Brownsville are not in
stvery good humor over this
"scare" and it is to be hoped that
- he matter may be hushed up
. "without delay, as this town, has
. .already suffered enough. But it
-would not be a bad idea at all if
those responsible for the false nr
nors can be traced and prosecuted
for the part they have played in
spreading them. A city has the
sight, just as any other corporation
itas, to sue a person for libel and
to recover damages for the same
Such an example would doubtless

-people more cautious about start
ing talk about towns that happen
"o be so unfortunate as to have a
