Miller, the Houston con tractor, who is' 'doing some work at San Benito, is in the city today. A number of friends were taken by Lon C. Hill this morning to see the Piper Plantation, just below the city. Mrs. Fannie D. Putegnat and her five children returned last night from Junction City, where they have been for three months. Captain Everson arrived in Brownsville with his staunch little gasoline motor launch, about 1 o'clock today. He made the run from Point Isabel in 14 hours. Mrs. J. W. Hoyt and her two grand children arrived in the city last night from Monterey. Mrs. Hoyt has been visiting her daugh ter in Monterey for some time, and also met her son, who is engaged in business in the republic. J. W. Lamb will start on a jour ney to a northern state in a few days for a short visit" to relatives Mrs. Lamb and the baby . are at Victoria, Mexico, visiting Mrs. Lamb's parents while Mr. Lamb takes his journey to the North- Judge Emilio Forto and his wife left this morning for an extended tonr through Mexico. Mrs. Forto is going to try and keep the judge awayfrom the cares of business for about six weeks, 'and he says he will not to absent himself from business for such a long time. Any way they plan to have a pleasant vacation with the question of time limit as yet unsettled. H. W. Stude of Houston and L. H. Hallam took a party to Harlin- i gen today in their automobiles. Miss Sainz has been visiting friends and enjoying the acean breezes at Point Isabel. Captain Spelterni, the Swiss aeronaut, has just finished a won derful achievement, namely, the crossing of the Alps in a balloon. This was his 529th ascent and his notebook does not record a single accident in any of them.
