A very interesting meeting of the delegates appointed to attend the Intercoastal, Inland Waterways Convention to be held at Houston next week was held at City Hall last night. The Mayor, Dr. F. J. Combe, called the meeting to.order at 8 o'clock. The Mayor briefly stated th& object df- the meetingi to perfect organization and make such ar rangements as ;'the delegates thought necessary for the success of the delegation at the conven tion. He outlined the course he had pursued since the invitation was extended to Brownsville to take part in tb proceedings looking to the opening up ot tne lnianu w.u way from the Mississippi to the Rio Grande. The first business transacted was the appointment' of a chairman of the delegation. Judge Forto pro posed the name of Judge Bartlett and the name was seconded Dy Frank C. Pierce. The nomination received the unanimous vote of the meeting. On the motion of T. Crixell, seconded by E. Champion , S. K. Hallara was unanimously elected secretary of the delegation. . The following committee on ar rangements was appointed by the Mayor: A. A. Browne, f. v-nam-oion. Judge Fortoj F. C. Pierce, S. K. Hallani and Walter Dun- kerley. An ififormal discussion of the procedure to be followed by the delegates followed, and it was final ly decided that S. K. Hailam be appointed orator for the delega tion, which position Mr. Hailam graciously accepted. White badges, were ordered printed with the word "Browns ville thereon. On the morning of the conven tion, it -was aereed to march to the convention Hall in a body, and the , Mayor said he would arrange for ; the splendid band of the Second (Mexican) Cavalry to head the parade.
