Andres Champion of Hidalgo county,' returned home today, after spending a fevr days in the city. U. S. Commissioner H. F.-Dennett of Eidalgo, who was "Here at federal court left for home today. Customs Inspector Jefferds left for home today, after spending several days in town attending federal court. Domingo Garza, customs inspec tor at Rio? Grande City, who was one of the witnesses before the federal court, has returned home. Mr. and Mrs. Black arid baby, ofBarstow, Texas, left for home home today, after a pleasant visit to Rev. and Mrs. W. C. C. Foster of this city- F. R. Park and G. C. Pollock are recent arrivals in Brownsville! from Boulder, Col., who will lo cate here and engage in the real estate business. Geo. R. Sims, accompanied by Civil Engineer E. B. Gore, went down to Padre Island today to do some surveying on the Tarpon Beach town site. Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Walker of Belton, Texas, have arrived to spend thejwinter with their daugh--ter and son-in-law.. Mr. and Mrs. Burnett, in this city. Mrs. W. K. Mendenhall and little daughter have arrived' from GatesvUIe, Texas, to join Mendihall at their new home, tfie -beautiful Rio Grande uurseiy near Brownsville. Mr. and Mrs. MendenhalLTvill make a desirable a'dSition to this vicinity. and Mrs. Alba Heywood, Mr. who have recently returned to San Benito from an extended visit to Colorado and California, came down to Brownsville yesterday morning in their big new auto and returned home by train today.leav ing the machine to have some re pairs made on it. Mr. Heywood talks very entenainingly about his western trip, and had a pocketful of big gold nuggets from the mine in which he and Mr. Stenger are interested. At the home of the bride's father near Olmito, Texas, on the even' ing of Wednesday, Dec. 4., the marriage of .Mr. Harvey Draper Jones and Miss Margarette May Merrell took place, Rev. L. R Burress, pastor of the Brownsville church officiating. A most ele gant supper was served after the ceremony, and enjoyed by the guests, and some ' time was spent byall very pleasantly afterwards. The meeting of The Learners this week was held with Mrs. W H. Mason. In addition to the current events given at roll ;call, the following papers were read: Sketch of Dryden's Life, Miss A. E. Dysart. Swift's "Tale of a Tub," Mrs. Wheeler. "Gulliver's Travels," Mrs. Creager. Discussion of the lives of Dryden and Swift followed aud much in teresting information on the sub jects was brought out. The club meets next week with Mrs. Creager. Run Growing Fast. The little town of Run in Hi- j dalgo county, which is in the i midst of a fine truck country, is growing, fast, according to late re ports. From Andres. Champion, who lives in that part of the coun ty, The Herald learns that since last June twenty-five .new. ,Amer ican families have settled at Run rabst of them joining the ranks .of the truck growers, and five more families are-- expected to arrive there from the north by this ex- cursion. Died, In this city, Thursday, Dec. 5, 1907, at 4:20 p. m., Louise B., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank B. Armstrong, aged six years and seven months. The death of this little one was the result of a very sudden and short illness. Several days ago, 'she was taken with an attack of paralysis, from which she never rallied, and after a brief sea son of suffering, the death angel me and mercifully bore the lit tle sufferer" away.
