Sunday, partly cloudy. Kght to fresh southerly wind. H. M. Brant of San Benito is in ihe dry today. Dr. Taylor returned from Lagu; a Vista last evening. Miss Irwin arrived from the Point last evening. G. B. Parsons of Mercedes is a visitor in town today. D. Andrews and family came up from the Point last evening. Wm. Briggs, the Hidalgo ir rigationist, came down last night. H- H. Hale of Mercedes was transacting business in town to day. L. E. Bennett, one of Hidalgo county's new truck growers, is a visitor in town. Matt Skeen, a real estate dealer of l,os Angeles, CaL. is among the visitors in town. Leroy Van Lehue of Stafford, Kan., is among the visitors to the Land of Sunshine. E. S. Fackler and B. Bartan and wife of Norton, Kahs., are among the homeseekers arriving last night. Mr. and Mrs. E. K. Butler who came up from the Point two or three day:, ago, are the guests of Mrs. Wolff and daughters. Louis Frees, general manager of the Waters Pierce oil company, frith headquarters at Houston, was a visitor here yesterday. R. J. McMillan, assistant attor ney of the Brownsville road, and C. M. Means, claim agent of the road, spent yesterday in town, leav ing today on their return to head quarters at Kingsville. J. L. Parker, who has been quite ill recently, is now able to be up, and will leave shortly for his home in Kinsley, Kans. Mr. Parker owns some land near Brownsville and expects to return here later. Col. F. D. Heustis of Olympia, Wash, brother of Superintendent G. D. Heustis of the St. I,., B. & M. railway, arrived last night to join his wife, who has been speed ing some time here as the guest of Mr. and MrS- G. D. Heustis. Col. Heustis is a retired railroad officer, j and was at one time 'collector of customs of the port of Olympia, Wash., Dr. B. F. Young, secretar to State Health Officer Brumby, of Austin, arrived in Brownsville last night and went down to Point Isa bel this morning. The nature of Dr. Young's business at the Point could not be learned as the local quarantine officer, Dr. Cox, did not see him, or know of his coming until after he had gone to the Point this morning. Early communion 7:30 a. nr. V HOMESEEKERS ARRIVE. Over Two Hundred Seeing the Browns ville Vicinity Six More Cars Are 1 8 Coming. Two tourist cars with about 50 homeseekers arrived with the freightltrain which reached Browns ville this morning. Quite a num ber of the excursionists came in with the regular passenger train last night also, an extra coach hav ing been attached to the train at Kingsville to accommodate the pas sengers. Every coach was filled, tke numbar reaching here last night being over 150, nearly all of Whom were homeseekers. Tta number coming in this morning could not be ascertained, as the conductor left on the return freight train, but it is estimated at about Sixty. The tourist cars Isabel, Ray mondville, Brownsville, Texas, I,and and Luther also came down on the Brownsville road with their usual quota of homeseekers yester day, stopping at various points along the road. These will also visit Brownsville at some time during the next few days. NATIONAL BUYS TIES Agent Puis Now Buying 100,000 Tic for the Company. Emilio J. Puig, purchasing agent for the Mexican National railroad, whose headquarters are now in Matamoros, was in Brownsville yesterday, chatting with friends a while. In conversation with a Herald reporter, Mr. Puig stated that he is now commissioned by the company to purchase 100,000 ties for use on the division between Matamoros and Monterey and also on the Pacific division. As stated some time ago, Mr. Puig is also buying very large quantities of wood for the com pany, having undertaken to buy a million cords last fall. He has al ready bought a large quantity of the wood, and is still buying as fast as it can be obtained. Good Town to Live In. In the town of Klugenberk, Ger many, taxes are unknown, and this year $50 was paid to every citizen from the pro6ts of the municipal brickworks.
