Motor Car COMMITTEE REPORT JUST AS EXPECTED. Felt Sure Negro Soldiers Would Be Found Guilty and President Up held. That citizens of Brownsville had no doubt that the senate committee on military affairs would declare the "shooting up" of Brownsville in August, 1906, to have been the work of the negroes of the Twenty r Cil - r . , ana inianiry was evidenced yes terday afternoon in the court house. A Herald reporter mentioned to a number of attorneys and others sitting inside the railinr that the committee had reported to the senate. "Four senators acted with Senator Foraker in disagree ing with the majority," he said. District Attorney Kleiber then took a pencil and paper and wrote down the names of all of the members of the committee. He then marked off the names of those who, in his opinion, would vote that the ne groes did the shooting. He marked "no" against the names of tin? others. He had them all correct when he finished. The concensus of opinion throughout the city last evening, following The Herald's ap pearance, was that no other course was open to the senate committee, in view of the evidence given be fore it at its many sessions. It was certain, of course, that Senator Foraker, ' who called the nvestigation more to further his own political ends than to do justice to anyone, ' as one man put it, would return a minority report to the effect that no case had been made against the negroes, but there was no doubt but that there wculd be a big majority against him and his small coterie. The investigation on the part of he committee was long and thorough. Every witness who knew even the slightest thing about the raid of the negroes was called to the stand and given a thorough examination. Among this number were a few who were of the opinion that the soldiers had nothing to do with the shooting, but they were very few, and their testimony was such that the statemeuts of the great majority of those who were examined overrulled them. Citizens of Brownsville will watch with interest the fight to be made within a day or so oh the floor of the senate. That the body will accept the majority report of the military affairs committee is a foregone conclusion. This will uphold the action of President Roosevelt iu discharging the three companies of the Twenty-fifth re giment, comprised in Mayor Pen rose's command. I have for sale 1000 acres of the very best orange, grape, fruit and vegetable land iu the Rio Grande Valley, within three to five miles of the town of San Benito, and on the main line ofj the San Benito ir rigating canal, which is the largest and most reliable canal Jin the Rio Grande Valley. This land is equal in value for growing oranges, grapes, English walnuts, figs and vegetables to any land in California which is now selling at from $500 to $1000 per acre. I can divide this land up into 10, 20 and 40 acre tracts and sell it at from $60 to $100 an acre. The town of San Benito is 19 miles from Brownsville, and is on the main line of the St. Louis, Brownsville & Mexico Railroad. San Benito is the coming town of south Texas. Write W- O.
