Taylor, of Mission, in raising snap beans. Hr. Taylor is an ex-ranger, and his experience in farming dates back to the time of his purchase of five acres of land at La liomita osc ago. In September, 100S, he planted one and one-half acres to beans and ortly after planting them went to tho new town of Chapin, where he employed by Mr. John Closneri for several months. During his absence his beans matured, and he instructed a neighbor te five them marketed. "When he returned to Mission a day or two ago he was very agree- ly surprised to learn that Ids one and one-half acres, of beans had pro- Isced 178$ bushels and had sold at an average price of .$2.35 per bushel, " to him, aggregating $391.02. Year HencepChapin willijSeh'eTest town in the Valley, The Houston Post of yesterday publishes some important informa tion gleaned in an interview with F. W. McCabe, the railway-contractor who was engaged in the construction of a large part of the St. Louis, Brownsville and Mexico Railway, which, tends strongly to confirm the renort that Col. Jeff N. Miller will j be associated with Jose M. Limantour the Mexican financier, in the project to build a railroad to connect Brownsville and Matamoros with Tampico. The Post says: "P. W. McCabe, the railway con tractor who has made his. headquar ters in Houston for the past six months, returned yesterday from a visit to St. Louis. "Mr. McCabe did a large portion of the construction work of the St. Louis, Brownsville and Mexico Rail way and keeps in close touch with railway building. He stated yester day that undoubtedly the statement from Mexico City to the effect that Jeff N. Miller was associated with Limantour in the railway enterprise between Matamoros and Tampico was correct. It was generally knowd to railway men that Mr. Miller would be connected with a railway enter prise in Mexico, and he is a close friend of Limantour. "Discussing the report that Hill had secured a controlling interest in the Brownsville road, Mr. McCabe stated that there was every indica tion that this was a fact,, and he be lieves it Avill become apparent within a short time." A Grand Coup of Hill's. The Post sees in the foregoing in dications that Hill has effected a grand coup, by which he will ob tain control of the Brownsville and Mexico territory, for which he and Harriman are supposed to be con testing at present It goes on to say: "Tile statement that the Liman tour road will be friendly to the in terests in control of the Brownsville road, it is hinted, means that Hill, through his purchase of the Colora do Southern, and consequently ' the Trinity and Brazos Valley, has sim ply precipitated a grand coup and has beaten Harriman into Mexican territory, and that that is why tho Harriman interests are now so busy in the Brownsville country. "It is the puropse of Harriman now to get into the Rio Grande Val ley and to Mexico and to the City of Mexico as quickly as possible, and to this end, it is stated, the Victoria branch of the Southern Pacific will be extended from Beeville and con verted into a trunk line. It will cfnnect with the line that Sam Rob-, ertson and his associates are build ing down in the Valley, several miles of which have already been graded, and for which several miles of steel have been purchased. "This line will run through Cha pinj the new county seat town of Hi dalgo county, then straight to the Rio Grande river, crossing the river about sixty miles north of Browns ville. This, it is stated, is, about the best location on the Rio Grande river fpra bridge, inasmuch as the cost of construptlon willbe Jess than at any ottierpoint. The Mine will run as nearly-on a bee.lihe to the city after crossing the river as it will be pos sible to construct it. "It is a Hill-Harriman contest for the Brownsville Valley tonnage, as well as for the Mexican territory, it is stated. SAN-JUANAS1 BUILDINGP NEW TOWN AT JUNCTION OF ST. L., B. & M, AND S.A. & R. G.
