John Nicholson of Kingsvjlle, sup erintendent of motive power of the Brownsville road, left for home this morning after spending the night at Brownsville. Capt. J. W. Vann, special agent of the department of justice, arrived in the city Monday night fro mHous ton and. spent yesterday in the city shaking hands with his many f riends. John Closner, sheriff of and gener al promoter of development enter prises of Hidalgo county- who spent, yesterday and last night in Browns ville, left this morning for his home in Chapin. Dr. A. B. Cole, one of San Benito's prominent residents, was in town yesterday. Dr. Cole is one of the many Minnesotans who have come to help In the development of this rich valley. Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Martin of Aus tin, who have been spending the past two weeks here, left today for Fal furrias. Mr. Martin is interested in lands near San Benito and Mercedes,, and has been looking after his inter ests. W. L. Devereaux of Clyde, N. Y., and Temple, Okla., accompanied by his "wife, is visiting Brownsville. Mr. Devereaux is an entomologist, being, a member of the American Entomolo gical Society, and he is here for the purpose of studying the insect life of this region. Mrs. W. H. Flowers and daughter, Mrs.R. N. Garland, pf Terrell, Texas, who have been spending the past month visiting Harlingen, are in the city today, and will leave tomorrow for their home at Terrell. Mrs. Flowers and her husband have bought a thirty acre tract at Harlingen, which is being cultivated! by their son, J. G. S, Putegnab. of this city. The ceremony will take place Sunday morning at ten o'clock, and will be followed, by a solemn high. mass. At three o'clock in the afternoon the Benediction ser vice will be held. Services will be held regularly in the new chapel hereafter, being conducted by some members of the Oblate community from Browns vjlle. As soon. - as a residence for the. priest is provided at Mercedes, a resident pastor will be in charge of the parish. - in oraer to permit ail who are interested, in thjs event to go from points along the Brownsville road, an excursion train will be run from Brownsville to Meacedes, at $1.00 for the trip from Brownsville to Mercedes and return. This train will leave Brownsville at 8:00 a.m. Sunday, and will return at 5:30 p. in. the same day. Tickets for the excursion may be bought from the Oblate Fathers at. their residence adjoining the Catholic church, or from the drug store of Jose Martinez. Quite a large number will probably attend from Brownsville. Notice. Regarding the masquerade dance to be given next Monday night, the 22nd, it must be understood that only those having cards of admissiofi will be allowed to enter the hall. Thig is strictly in accordance with the rules governing such dances and it is to be hoped that everybody will pre sent their cards that there will be no one humiliated at the entrance. R. E.
