Since the arrival of Presiaent Taft in this sec tion of Texas a family of "possums havo taken up their abode in the Immediate vicinity of the San Canos hotel. No doubt they know that the president does not intend to come to Brownsville on this trip. How over, two of the younger members of the family have come to grief. One of them rambled into the ho tel office the other night while he supposed the night clerk was asleep but a sharp-oyed bell boy spied the little "possum looking over the reg ister just to make sure that Presi dent Taft was uot in the city, and captured him. The next morning found him a corpse with sweet 'ta ters all about him, ready to be served as breakfast for Mine Host Mendenhall. In the four tem ples of justice which were in op eration the first of the week there has only been one case and that was a minor smuggling case in the com missioner's court. In the Record er's and Justice's court there has not been so much as a plain drunk.
