McLean, fur Circuit Clerk, an AC. A. NeiUuu, for Constable The roof has been put on the College, and the inside work Is be ing dune. Ii will probably be com pleted by July 10th. At no place, during the canvass, have there been as many candidate gathered together as at the Gills- burg Commencement. The soldiers reunion of this county comes on the day of the State convention. Wonder if we can't get the convention postponed Preaching in the Baptist church of this place, by Elder R.J. Stewart, Saturday and Sunday next, at 11 o'clock a. ni. All are cordially in vited to attend. Many thanks to the following named parties for cash favors in the last few days: Adam Taplin, F Sterling, Mrs. C. Morgan, Bates fe Robinson, J E Causey, mere will be a big picnic at II. P. Hoggins' mill on July 4th. Every body invited to r.ttend, es pecially candidates, both populite and democratic Respectful Iv, F. M. Bkkryhii-l. Many thanks to Fred Rogers for a number of large turnips, the finest we have seen this season. If Fred raises every thing else in proportion he will have no kick coming about hard times. With sueli good schools asLiberty, GillsburgandEastlork can boast of, backed up by such high toned and substantial communities, we see no reason for sending children out ol the county to be educated. Notice. Strayed from my premises, three miles north of Liberty, Amite coun ty, Miss.: One Mouso-colored Mare Mule, medium size, shout five years old. Any information as to her whereabout will be thankfully re ceived and rewarded. J.E.Cai'sky. Notice. In pursuance to Section 3903, a meeting of the school board ol Amite county will be held in the Superintendent's office on Monday, July 15, 1895, to locate schools and to attend to any business which may properly come beloie it. : Geo. A. McGehee, Sup'i.of Ed. We neglected to state in our last issue that Hon. R. A. Vancleavc, candidate for State Auditor, visited our town on Saturday, 8th inst. Mr. VancleaVe is a Jackson county gentleman, is a remarkably fine looking man, affable, and, we sup pose, competent to fill the office of auditor. On Monday J, W. Wilkinson sent us a fully matured cotton bloom, the first we bad seen. Later in the day we received one from Maurice Allen, which had been sent in, however, early in the morning. It was also full blown. These blooms are among the first we have seen mentioned. This county hasn't gone crazy on free silver. There was a larger turn out. at the bear and monkey show Wednesday morning than al the free silver rally. Perhaps after all it was a free silver delegation, as the bears were natives of the west. . We don't know what part the monkey plsjed.unless he repre sented Ibe gold-bug sentiment. The Monumental Committee will meet on Monday, the first day of July,, at which time it is expected that each member thereof will make report. Messrs. P R Brewer, W H Webb, T P Street, M Jackson, I A Jenkins, F W Slratton, C H Frith, T J Dye, J A Burris, T A Robinson, Geo. Liberty, ils, Ji T. : I bs no concern Lr the future cf tae Demccrati Uftny. Tra y there f jo icg a true aaa -eep chara in lh party which caDQ jt be easily or tarn bridged ortr. The acrim 5cicuieipre4sii.es and epithets that are daily being nsed by some candidates ssi with such a malignant and vindictive spirit certainly bodes no good for the party. Such a state of feeling if certainly uncalled for and ini cusable among intellieenl men. and more especially is this unwise and impolite with our party candidate All ef our offices are not worth a single unkind word. There can be no question as to the efficacy of the Democratic party to give us all a just and equitable government. No other political organization can be trusted to give to the people a fair government, giving "equal right to ill and Special privileges to none." To ameliorate the condition in which we at present find our party we must invoke to our help tb purest sod best elements of exalted patriotism. We are prone to be too indiscrete, intolerant, and es pecially inconsiderate when we iru pug.i the motives of those who dif fer with us oo questions of public policy, and of our public officers It is scarcely fair or creditable to find to much fault with the manag ment of our public affairs when we know so little of them. It seems to me that we greatly err when we manufacture indis criminate charges against our candi dates add officers, when we sre wholly unable to support them by competent evidence. Undoubted ly we have a country of which we should be proud. Our privilege end liberties are far beyond those of other countries. Indeed it can not be proven that the civil rights of a single citizen are abridged oi restricted beyond what is necessary for the public welfare. Then why so much complain' of mal-adroinin- tr.ilion and official infidelity. We must remember that it is no small matter to govern seventy million of people. The affairs of a re publican form of government are of necessity very cemplicated and difficult to control, and, of course, mistakes will occur with those en dnwed with the greatest wisdom If this be true, is it patriotism or even good manners to open tin- flood gates of wrath and charge conspiracy with Wall street and other cess-pools of political iniqui ty, even high treason itself not ex cepted. It is a cheap thing to accuse and a small thing to talk, but a very grave and stupendous Undertaking toproduceconvincingproof. I know we are favored beyond our just de serts, and if we would perpetuate this great and glorious government let us refrain from those euphoni ous epithets which some of our friends, heretofore high in demc crstic counsel, have condescended to use, which if not totally -has at leaBt partially destroyed much of the magnetism and influence it has been their custom to wield over the people of this State, and learn . I . ... to oear ine ins we nave until we i an rectify them, Hume tersely remarks: "To balance a large state or society, whether monarchical or republican, on general laws, is a work of so great difficulty, that no human genius, however compre hensive, is able by the mere dust of reason to effect it. The judgments of many must unite in the work: experience must guide their labor; time must bring it to perfection, and the feeling of inconveniences must correct the mistakes, which they inevitably fall into in their trials and experiments." Let us go forward in this campaign as be comes free intelligent American citizens and avoid hard words and names, and the candidates who are given to the use of them because forsooth his opponent differs from him on public questions, and which ever faction Comes up with the ma jority, let all gracefully acquieca in the result, right or wrong, for at the proper time we can renew the fight for what we believe to be correct in principle. Party unity and party harmony is the greet de sideratum, the great panacea that will cure all the svils'of which ws complain. Let us sgain rally around the old Democratic colors and trnst ber, for she baa in the past been to us what no man can estimate, whose influence no man csn ever lose even though be be the Moses of other parties. Let us be thoughtful, considerate and conservative, not hasty, rash and indiscrete. We must watch, work' and wait, and I " " ceea.ets lor ess to sar tsat up',: the aad H. Wiliu.nscs.
