Hitchcock.
Senator Gilbert G. Hitchcock
oT Nebraska was recently asked
by a number of prominent Dem
ocrats of Utah to set forth,
brielly, over his signature, why
he is for Governor Cox for Pres
ident. In reply, Senator Hitch
cock set forth the following co
gent reasons:
"Wo may assume that all faith
ful Democrats will vote for Cox
and will give Cox support for
President of the United States
not only because he is the unan
imous selection of the Demo
cratic convention, but because
his public career has shown him
to be not only a devoted support
er but a brilliant leader of the
party.
''As a member of the House of
Representatives and later three
times governor of Ohio, Cox has
shown himself t be a man of
force, energy, resource and in
domitable character. He is a
f)emocrat from the soles of his
eet to the top of his head; a
pemocrat in his every-day life,
and a Democrat in l)is strong
poriviptions.
"But Cox is entitled to have
the support of many voters who
do not perhaps classify them
selves as Democrats. He is en
titled to have the support of men
who believe in progressive ideas
of government, because his
who'iO public life has shown that
he is devoted to those policies,
while his opponent, Senator
Harding, is very well recognized
as not only a conservative, but a
reactionary. It was because of
tho splendid record Governor
THE UNIVERSAL CAR
The Ford Model T One Ton Truck with its
manganese bronze worm-drive is really a
necessity for the fanner because it solves his
problem of economic transportation from the
farm to the city. And in farm work alone, it
will be found a jjreat money saver as well as a
big labor saver. Has all the merits of the Ford .
car multiplied by greater capacity witli greater
strength. No extra cost in operation. We'd
like to talk it over with every farmer. Bring
your Ford car to us for necessary repairs and
thu3 get the genuine Ford parts and reliable

Cox made in his first term us
governor that lie was twice
thereafter elected governor. The
record of progressive laws pass

of Ohio under his iidniiuistra

means the ratitication of the

into tho League of Nations. The
election of Senator llnrdintr
means that the peace- treaty will
not he ratified and that the
United States will not enter the
r . , ,
LiOagUC Of NatlOIIS. We need
not inquire what reservations
will be attached to the treaty.
It is sufficient to know that such
reservations will be attached as
will carry out the will of tho
American people and win
enough votes in the Senate to
make ratification possible and
, that these reservations will not
destroy the vatality of the league
covenant.
Appeal To Tndupkn-oknts.
"There is another reason why
the election of Cox should ap
peal to the independent voter.
It is because if elected President
of the United States -he will be
i President and exercise the pow
lers of President given him by
'the Constit'ition and by acts of
Congress. On the oilier hand,
Senator Harding has frankly
( said that if elected President the
powers or government are to be
J under tho control oftheRepub
ican party, which means, of
.course, the bosses in the Rcpuh
Mean party who haveno respon
sibility. J Mere are in the United
States many hundreds of thou
sands of independent voters, who
can hardly lie classified as mem
bers or any party, and they can
hardly be willing to turn the
Government of the United States
over to an oligarchy, controlled
and directed largely by a few!
party bosses. The American J
voters when they elect a man to

sonally responsible for the ex-1

these powers to party leaders
or party caucuses.
"The American people have
not yet quiet forgotten the time
when a certain former President
of the United States was de
scribed as 'a largo body entirely
surrounded by a group of men
who knew exactly what they
wan to I.' "
If you really and truly have
something for sure to say, you
can say it und Imvo it oer in a
few words.
