Friends of Morris Caldwell, a former Rush county boy, were surprised to learn that he has organized an American Volunteer corps in Paris und that he is now at the front fighting for the allied armies of France and Fngland at the head of his company. HUNTINGTON. A report has gain ed general circulation in railroad cir cles here that P. A. Worthington, for merly president of the Chicago and Alton railroad, is to be made president of the Erie railroad. Mr. Worthington Is well known in all parts of the coun try as a railroad executive. When he was receiver for the Wheeling and Iakc Krie railroad from 19 04 until 1908. tho net earnings cf the road doubled. MT. MORRIS. Charles Mann. jr.. son of a prominent real estate dealer at Flint, was instantly killed near Clio when his auto upset. The machine pinned young Morris to the ground breaking his neck. A companion es caped unhurt. JACKSON. Dutch Kline had a nar row escape from death here while driving a racing car In the auto races at Keely park. He drove the car from the course to avoid running down a child and the machine went up an embankment and turned over twice. Kline was thrown clear and landed on his feet without a scratch. PAY CITY Albert Poyce. 22. a mo torman and Mrs. Alfred Potter, :52, were seriously injured when the hit ter's auto collided with the street car In charge of Poyce. Poyce was thrown to the floor and Injured internally. CADILT-AC With two bottles which had contained poison found near here, the body of Mrs. Frank Evans of Marion was found by neigh bors at that village In her home. Four Sisters of Mercy and a num ber of wounded were killed by a Ger man shell that exploded in the ca thedral at Rheims on Monday, accord ing to a semi-ot!'cial report received to lay at the headquarters of Gen. Gallieni. military governor of Paris. The Sisters of Mercy were carina I for wounded French and German sol diers when the shell burst among them. Two are said to hive been instantly killed. Another report re ceived hero says that priests and lis ters of Mercy knelt irt-prayer at in tervals as the rain of shells was poured upon the cathedral, and then proceeded with their task of alleviat ing the suffering. The funeral services for the late Will'am Guidemann will bo held on Wednesday afternoon from the home of his mother, Mrs. Caroline Guide mann. Rev. Mr. Rahn will conduct the services which will be strictly private. Mr. Guidemann, who was :17 years of age, died (Sunday after a lingering illness with tuberculosis. William Harvey, a transient was found lying under a tree Monday suf fering front advanced stages of tu berculosis. At his request he was sent to the tuberculosis camp at South Rend. Women of the churches Interested in the approaching revival served dinner Monday to the workmen who were engaged on the construction work of the tabernacle. Fifty men were served. Tuesday evening the women will distribute the shavings which will cover the ground. Hon. Dan Pyle of South Rend gave an address last evening before the Niks city and township Sunday school convention on the theme. "The Need of Efficient Sunday School Teachers." The convention elected H.
