C Milton J. Trainor, ot the war department real estate division, denied before the senate buildings committee to day that he had sought a commis sion of $100,000 in connection with a contract for the Chicapo speed way hospital. The charg; was made before the committee last week by V. S. liennett, former member of congress and counsel for Edward Hines, a Chicago lumber dealer, who made large donations for the pro posed hospital. Mr. Trainor told the committee that on last June 21 he and Samuel H. Hodge, also connected with the war department, went .to the of fices of Conraw Popinhusen and Jacob Newman, law partners in Chi cago, in response to a telephone message from Mr. Popinhusen. Mr. Newman, an attorney for Mr. Hines, Georce H. Shank, a contractor, and Wallace Clark, Mr. Trainor's part ner, also were present, the witness said. Mr. Shank explained, according to the witness, that he hal asked for the conference for the purpose of inquiring of Trainor and Clark whether they could assist in selling the speedway hospital property to the government for hospital pur poses. Trainor testifed that both he and Hodge said they could not undertake the details because Hodge was then in the government service and Trainor intended soon to enter the war department's real estate di vision.
