TABLET TO PRESIDENT LINCOLN
A bronze tablet dedicated to the memory of President Lincoln, Gen
eral Horatio Wright and the soldiers of the Sixth United States Army
Corps who fell in the battle of Fort Stevens, July 11th and 12th. 1864,
unveiled at the old fort, July 12th, commemorating the fifty-sixth anniver
sary of the battle. The tablet is mounted on a rough boulder and placed
tt the apot where President Lincoln stood during the battle. This is said
to be the only time that a President of th.r United States was in actual
command of an army and under fire. Col. John McElroy. department
