A Greeting.
In this first issue of the Republi
can we send heartiest greetings to all
the members our- enlarged family.
We congratulate them oh being
brought together and felicitate our
selves upon so large and good a num
ber of subscribers.
Those who have been Tribune sub
scribers and those who have been
Chronicle subscribers are now sub
scribers to the"Republican. It is the
hope that the conduct of the paper
will be such that they will all gladly
remain Republican subscribers.
The editor has nothing but the
kindliest feelings for every person
in this city and this county, and
more especially is this the case to
ward our subscribers. "We want them
all to feel and know this.
To those who have been Tribune
subscribers during all the period of
that paper's existence, and Republi
can subscribers before that time,
this change may seem somewhat
abrupt at first, but we believe all of
them will be pleased at the union of
the papers and time will soon make
them feel as much pX home as ever.
Gladly will we meet and welcome
every subscriber at the office, 206
North Michigan street.
The purpose of the Republican will
be to give the news of Plymouth
and Marshall county not only faith
fully, fairly and clearly, but in that
crisp, spicy style which will make
the reading of it a pleasure.
All the best features of both the
Tribune and Chronicle will "b"e con
tinued and a more thorough news
service than ever maintained. We
want our subscribers to help us in
getting the news and will always ap
preciate it if they will telephone
items to 848, step in and give us
news or write articles for" the paper.
Thus with a long pull and a strong
pull and a pull all together, the Re
publican hopes to be of the mosf '
possible force in helping to make the
people of this community better
and happier.
Splendid Patronage.
The Republican wishes to Acknow
ledge the splendid patronage i he Ply
mouth business men have given it this
week. The almost spontareous re
sponse to our request for advertising
in this the first issue of the combined
papers, and a special merchants' edi
tion, show how thoroughly the public
appreciates the fact that the two
papers have at last been combined:
These numerous ads our readers
wilt" find very interesting. You can
spend an hour very, pleasantly and
profitably reading these advertise
ments. Try it. They are all so diff
erent and so well written that you
will not tire of them.
They will show y5u that the mer
chants of Plymouth are indeed & live
" bunch' ' and that it will pay you tt
get interested in what they have to
say of their businesses.

REPAIR BRIDGE
COUNTY COMMISSIONERS HOLD
BRIEF SESSION TUESDAY
AFTERNOON TO ORDER AD-
VERTISEMENTS FOR BIDS
8HAFER STRUCTURE
Widening of River Banks by Dredge
Leaves Road Without Cross
ing Seven Miles East of
Plymouth.
The Board of Commissioners held
a special meeting, at the court house
Tuesday afternoon, for the purpose
of adopting the plans and specifica
tions for the repair, and replacing of
the Shafer bridsre, seven miles east
of Plymouth and for ordering ad
vertisements for bids on the repair,
placed in local newspapers.
The plans -were prepared bv Coun
ty Surveyor William Schoonover.
The replacing and extention of tht
bridge, arose as a result of the work
of the dredge, which in the course of
its operation, increased the width ot
theuiver banks at that point, to such
extent that the bridge would no long
er span the river. On last Thanks
iriving day the dredge lifted the
.steel bridge in the air, and swung the
entire structure upon the bank of the
river, where it still reposes. As a
result the Toad which crossed the
river at that point is broken, and
traffic iiKthat locality badly broken.
It is reported that the dredge has
already completed slightly over two
lineal miles in the work of deepening
widening, and straightening Yellow
river.
