THE BOGDA-NEDL COOPERAGE CO iff - - . -V - ' V 1 '.V . F. H. BOGDA, President OUR CAPACITY PICKLE, KRAUT, CIDER, VINEGAR and PROVISION COOPERAGE The Bogda-Neil Cooperage Co., of which F. H. Bogda, is President, and A. Q. Neil, Secretary-Treasurer, is an institution of which Plymouth is extremely proud, and there are many reasons why it should be so. The products of the Company find an extensive market throughout the country, and this market is constant ly growing which is a tribute to the worth of the goods manufactured by Bogda-Neil. Previous to last May, the concern was known as The Illinois Barrel Co., when Messrs. Bogda and Neil took over the business, incorporating a company under the state laws of In diana, with a capitalization of $10, 000. The two partners own and con trol all of the stock, and are the sole owners of the concern. Mr. Bogda. came to Plymouth from Chicago, where he was for five years employed as Manager of the parent concern, The Illinois Barrel Co. Mr. Bogda has a practical and compre hensive insight into the cooperage business, which knowledge has been the means of contributing towards the success of the . local enterprise. For ten years he owned an estab lishment of his own in Chicago when the making of barrels was a much harder proposition than it is today. He had not the modern machinery at his disposal then, which is neces sary and indispensible now. At that time all the barrels were made by hand and all were wood-bound in stead of by iron, as at present. Mr. Bogda. was born in Chicago, February 11, 1876, of German par entage, is married, and with his fam ily resides at 423 N. Plumb St., Ply mouth. A9 we have said, he is thor oughly practical, and, outside his business interests, has little time for anything else. His partner, Mr. Neil, who resides in: Chicago, is a member of the Board of Trade of that city, the firm of Bogda-Neil owning a raember&hip in that body. He also knows the coop erage business thoroughly, having followed it for ten years previous to going on the Board of Trade. He attends to the1 sales end of the busi ness, while his partner looks after the manufacture. Mr. Neil is about 35 years of age. From the Chicago office the main end. of the business is attended to. The company employes an average of 20 to 25 men the year round, and the output of ihe factory is 400 bar rels a day. Last fall when business was; particularly brisk, there was an average of 500 barrels turned out daily for some considerable time. The main output of kraut and cid er barrels is shipped to the east and the provision barrels all go to the Union Stock yards in Chicago, and find their way into all parts of the country. The factory is modern in every de tail, and the machinery is of the lat est design and manufacture. This in cludes a .complete set of keg and pork and oil barrel machinery. Nothing but the very best material is used by the firm in the manufact ure of its goods, the oak and ash be ing brought from Mississippi, Ar kansas and Tennessee, and is noted for its durability. The business of the company is growing continuously, and the man agement will find it necessary to in crease its force of workmen in the near future, in order to keep up with the orders which keep pouring in from all parts. The company intends shortly to go into the manufacture of fruit barrels and has the assurance that the de mand for this particular receptacle will be good from the start. The Abrasive Mining company of this city, is a large buyer of slack barrels and emery kegs, believing that the home manufactured good 3 are superior to anything of the kind on the market.
