Spanish Clubs Are Active At High School The Spanish dubs of Brownsville high school meet Friday afternoon at their respective class periods with their teacher, Mrs. Juanita Y. de la Fortilla. These meetings take the place of the regular class work on Friday and the object of them is to improve the Spanish speaking abili ty of the members. The first part of the period is tak en up with current events which are given in Spanish. This is followed by a short business meeting after which a program emulating ol Span ish songs, jokes, verses, riddles and short plays is presented. At present, some members of Los Conqultodores Espanoles are dramatizing a short play entitled "Los Castillaa de Tor resnobles.” A newspaper is edited meekly by the reporter of each club and the news of the preceding meet ing is read each Friday. All members may take part in the programs pro vided the subject Is rendered in Spanish. These clubs under Mrs. Portilla*s supervision were organised last Sep tember but due to changes in the schedules and the fact that several new pupils were added to the classes at the beginning of the second se mester. a new election of officers was necessitated. April 2 —The Weslaco parent Teacher association will hon or the Senior and Junior classes of the high school with, a “Guest night” Wednesday night, April S. at 8 o’ clock. The Rev. Leslie Boone of Har lingen will be the guest speaker and his subject will be “The Choice of a Career.” This courtesy will be held in the high school auditorium, and following an interesting program, a social will be enjoyed and refresh ments served. • • • Mr and Mrs. Roy Lombard have received an announcement of the marriage of their son. Birthday Is Occasion Of Party Friday (Special to The Herald) SAN BENITO. April 2 — Lovely clusters of pink carnations and roses intermingled with fern were used for floral adornment when Mrs. G. C Adamson entertained in her home Friday evening honoring Mrs Glenn Goolsby on the occasion of her birthday. Details of the pretty affair were carried out in the colors of pink and white, tallies and score pads reflecting the chosen hues. Prizes were presented to Mrs. I. V .Jolly for high score. Mrs. Bur rus for low while the guest of hon or was remembered with a pretty gift package. Following the games strawberry cream was served with birthday cake. Ladies Auxiliary To Sponsor Easter Dance On April 6 The V F W. Ladies Auxiliary' dance committee composed of Mes dames Bell Nichols. Goldie Claar and M. Meyers met at the home of Mrs. Claar Monday evening. Plans were completed for an Eas ter dance to be given Saturday. Apnl 6 at the V. F W hall on Eliz abeth street. Reports Given At I Monday Meeting Of Missionary Society The Methodist Misionary society met at the church Monday after noon for a business session, con ducted by the president. Mrs. H B. Jeffery. Twenty-eight mmebers were in attendance. The opening hymn. "Sun of My Soul” was sung in unison followed by the devotional on Stewardship" iii charge of Mrs. J. H. Styles, who also lead in prayer. Celebration Is Surprise To Honoree Miss Viola Keller complimented Miss Zoila Montalvo with a party Thursday, the occasion being her birthday anniversary. Adams of this city, and Lee Ross Puckett, also of Mercedes, were married at a pretty wedding cere mony Friday morning at 10:45 o’ clock. at the Baptist church in Wes laco, with the Rev. Goff officiating. The bride was attended by her sis ters, Mrs C. W McGilvary of Mer cedes and Mrs. H H. Hale of Wes-» laco, and Mrs. R. M. Clark, also of Weslaco. Close friends and relatives of the family were also present. Miss Adams is a popular member of the young set in Mercedes and has been affiliated with the Rio Grande Valley Telephone Company lie re for the past five years. Mr, Puckett has a business position with the Paxton Produce company of this city. Mr. and Mrs. Purkett will con tinue to make their home in Mer cedes. Following the ceremony the bride and groom were honor guests at a delightful breakfast given by Mrs. Hale in Weslaco and at a dinner in the evening given by the bride’s mother, with close friends and rela tives present at both occasions.
