Herald Want Ads do Big Jobs for Little Money—Use Them and Profit INFLATION AHEAD! < Continued from Page One> Wiped out. Rich became poor. Wealth wasnt destroyed, but wealth Chirked hands considerably, and there were wholesale tragedies. W Germany’s experience Is oat of the question for America. There an those who think otherwise, but they are the fear-mongers. England, with many problems similar to ours, with many problems dissimilar, went off gold, steered toward managed currency and managed •cemorrv. England balanced its budget Recovery has been more mark ed than ours, but England is still in the twilight zone, as are we. and accurate comparisons involve technical complicated considerations England gives minor guidances, but no broad analogy. OUR INFLATION LIKE FRANCE’S France ought to be most interesting to those of us Americans who am scratching our heads about what ia to happen to us under the in* flttlonary policies of the Washington government. France went through a IS year cycle of inflation. 1914-27. There wire unbalanced government budgets, big government borrowings from the central bank. Internal necessity for public works <or equivalent). There were panics and crises (most were worse than we ha' e had In this country), and finally a formal revaluation ol franc at around 20 ~ of Its original gold value. U. 6. seems *« be going through a cycle like France’s.. We have unbalanced government budgets, six years of them In evidence. 1931-36. with no end definitely in sight. Our government doesn't have a strictly government central bank from which to borrow, but It controls the Fed eral Reserve System and borrows from thousands of banks, and the ef fect Is pretty much the same. France spent for national rehabilitation and national security; U. S. is spending for unemployment relief. France didn’t resort to the printing press to the extent that Germany did, and neiher will the U. 8. France expanded note issues; U. 3. is inflating bank credit. France was driven to a stage of inflation not originally contemplated It came little by little, bit by bit. step by step. This is the way we seem to be going. The French never quite believed Infla tion could go as far as it finally went. The question: Experience with inflation in other countries and other times, when examined with more care than is evident in this brief discussion, makes you think inevitably of one main big question— Can we control, hedge, limit, confine our own inflation? (CONTINUED WEDNESDAY) •Copyright, 1935, by United Feature Syndicate. Inc.) TEN IN JAIL; (Continued From Page One) aworn out by Game Warden Charles Kennedy. Gregona Landeros. a woman oc cupant of the Rivera home at the time of the shoottng. also t* held In Jail here but no charges have ha*n filed against her She is al MfH to have grabbed Saul's pistol End as he was entering the Ri vera house. Federal officials are Investigating the possibility of fil ing charges against her for Inter fering with an officer In the per formance of his duties. 'Indications are that the Port Isabel Justice of the peace cases against the nine fishermen will be dismissed and that more stnous charges will be pressed against them In the county court at law here. Several of these men had been fined before on charges of Il legal seining, and seven.! of them had been acquitted before follow ing a trial before a Port Isabel jury In justice court, according to toting officers. No charges have been filed as the result of Rivera's death The shooting, wnich occurred about 11 a. m Monday at Rivera s heme in Port Isabel, was Investi gated by Chief Deputy Sheriff Will Cablcr and Border Patrolman Charles See. According to the story told In vestigating officers. Game Warden Kennedy Saturday caught 10 fish ermen aboard a fishing smack mak ing illegal use of seine* in the La guna Madre He made an unsuc cessful attempt to arrest the men. even going so far as to try to tow the smack back to Port Isabel. The fishermen repeatedly cut the lines he threw aboard their boat, Ken nedy told the officers. vjiendon Rivera, the deceased is alKed to have been one of the leaders of this group. Kennedy waited at Port Isabel for the men Sunday after swearing out complaints charging them with Illegally dragging seines in the La guna Madre The men. however, did not return to port, remaining aboard the boat up the Laguna Madre Sunday night late, the investi gating officers were told, the fish ermen were forced back into Port Isabel by rough waters. Monday, knowing that the men a ere in Port Isabel, and anticipat ing trouble. Kennedy requested several officers to go with him to rewe the warrants. The officers were Border Patrolmen Saul and Kelly. Traffic Officer Bill Cabler and Roy Linn, who has charge of the Olmito fish hatchery. The officers placed six of the 10 men under arrest and then went to the home of Asenclon Rivera Kennedy went Into the house and attempted to serve the warrant but got into a scuffle with Rivera The warden left the two-room house by the east door when Rivera seized an old single-shot, breech-loading shotgun. Kennedy stated Ken nedy shouted a warning to the oth cj officers that Rivera had the shotgun. Saul who was entering the house from the south door apparently did not hear the warning. The Border Patrolman had his pistol In his extended right hand as he entered the door to the room where Rivera was. Gregoria Landeros, a woman oc cupant of the room, allegedly grab bed Sauls pistol arm, pulling on it from Saul's right. She was standing just inside of the room and to the right of the door, In vestigating officers were told. Rivera, who was standing near the center of the room, pointed the rusty shotgun at Squls head, ac cording to statements. The Bor der Patrolman threw up his left hand and Instinctively crouched The charge of birdshot shattered fclt arm just above the hand, and several of the pellets struck his hat. Saul fired twice after being hit himself. Kelly, who was standing just out side of the door to Saul's left, also fired several shots Into the room. Rivera dropped dead with one pistol slug near his heart and the second through the left side of his head Blasa Recio. mother of the de ceased and an occupant of the room, is alleged to have seized a machete and to have charged Kel ly. The officer fired at her the slug smashing the index finger of her right hand The finger later was amputated. The other officers fired several shots into the house before the smoke cleared away. Sa J suffered severe loss of blood before he could be taken to a doc tor. All ten of the defendants in the seinir.j case, with exception of the slain man. were brought to Browns ville and lodged In Jail. The group Includes Benigno Rivera. Francisco Fiores also known as Francisco Cantu. Pedro Trevino, Mateo Ra mirez. Roberto Garza. Ramon Ra mos. Juan Rodriguez. Guadalupe Kivera and Tomas Rivera. The Landeros woman also was brought to Brownsville and offi cers indicated that charges may be filed against her for grabbing Sauls pistol hand as he wws en tering the room.
