What Our New Seaport Means to the Lower Rio Grande Valley and all Southern Texas and Northern Mexico This new seaport will help make known, to enrich and to bring in contact with the entire world the Lower Rio Grande Valley and all Southern Texas and Northern Mexico, from Brownsville to San Antonio, Austin, San Angelo, Big Spring, El Paso, Chihuahua, Ma zatlan, Durango, Torreon, Saltillo, Monterrey, Victoria and back to Reynosa, Matamoros, Port Isabel and the all year round balmy sea coast of Padre Island, Del Mar, Boca Chica and Washington Bathing Beaches. The four counties known as the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Southern Texas, all will have the opportunity to soon become a part of one great city which will help to develop and advertise to the world the merits of all portions of Southern Texas and Northern Mexico. No other section in North, Central or South America has a location so favorable for properly building and suitably maintaining a great and prosperous city and metropolitan district as we have, and now that our deep wa ter sea level seaport is nearing completion and will soon be ready for use to connect us with all seaport markets of the world. Location for properly building, devel oping and maintaining in a prosperous and suitable condition for the citizens and inves tors of a great city and its trade territory is fully as important as location for any other big business, for so building, developing and main taining a great city and its trade territory can and should be made the biggest of all big busi ness. All other lines of legitimate big busi ness either are, or it seems should be in their ultimate effect, only subsidiary parts of the work which goes to help build and to suitably maintain the citizens and investors in great cities and their trade territory. The location of our new seaport on the Gulf Coast Section of the border line and fron tier of the wonderful industrial and commer cial races to the north of us and of the marve lous artistic and romantic races to the south of ut makes this the natural, permanent and most important meeting place and metropolis of all these growing and potentially great races of people. Our health sustaining climate in win ter, summer, spring and fall, and other natural advantages makes for us one of the rare all year round locations suitable for permanent residences, business and investments, for a great manufacturing and distributing metro politan district, and also for visitors and tour ists every day of the year. Because of the merits of its location and the foresight and enterprise of its citizens, New York has become and will continue to be the largest city and metropolitan district of the northeastern portion of North America. Because of the still more and greater merits of our location and by the use of still more and greater foresight and enterprise, combined with wisdom taught by experience, we now have the opportunity to soon become and to continue to be the largest city and met ropolitan district of all of North, Central and South America. Our location and opportunities for a great city and metropolitan district are far superior to those of New York City. We can produce, manufacture and dis tribute from this section more economically than can the New York City metropolitan dis trict, and can therefore properly develop and suitably support a much larger population. As a place to visit, to build a new busi ness, to live, to make a living and to invest for both safety and profits our location is many times better than that of New York City and vicinity. The four counties now known as the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Southern Texas, have grown more in population, wealth and progressiveness in the first thirty years since they were open to settlement than what is ‘ now known as the five counties, which make up the present corporate limits of N*w York City, grew in the first one hundred and fifty years after they were opened to settlement. With proper, suitable and sufficient teamwork, foresight, enterprise and wisdom of both its citizens and investors these four coun ties of the Lower Rio Grande Valley can be made to continue to grow more in population, wealth and beneficial progressiveness in the next thirty years than those five counties of New York City have grown in the last one hundred and fifty years. Our location, opportunities and advan tages are more than five times as good as those of New York for building and maintaining a great city, and a large and prosperous metro politan district. All that we need to do to thus continue to grow more than five times as rapidly as New York and vicinity have grown is to be worthy of our opportunities and loyal to the many ad vantages of properly and suitably helping to develop and enrich, as a natural part of our metropolitan district, all portions of Southern Texas and Northern Mexico. It is now up to each citizen and inves tor to do their part of the needed teamwork in order to most rapidly realize in the best way on this marvelous and unusual opportunity For wonderful growth and for great wealth and honor sufficient for all. h is now time for all citizens and inves tors who are loyal to both the opportunities made possible by our new seaport and our other advantages, to begin to enlist for need ed teamwork, and to train ourselves to be come and to continue to be the world's best, fairest, most enterprising and most beneficial city builders. I therefore cordially invite every loyal present, future and prospective citizen of any portion or investor in any and all portions of Southern Texas and Northern Mexico to teamwork with me in this great work. Will you teamwork with me to help to properly build and suitably develop and maintain for all its citizens and invest ors the world’s largest, most beautiful, most practical and most beneficially progressive and prosperous city and met ropolitan district? It will give me great pleasure to have you write me, 1502 Jefferso n street, Brownsville, Texas, and to have you answer, I WILL. Yours Truly, I. M. PUTNAM Seaport Investments
