Baptist Circle ban of the Mary-Martha circle of the Pint Baptist church met In the home of Mrs. Prank Robertson Tuesday afternoon when Mrs. l H. Thacker, retiring circle chair man. paid a beautiful tribute to the circle memben comprising her group for the pest year. The tribute, a poem written by Mrs. Thacker was read after which she presented each member with a pretty oorsage. Following a brief business meet ing Mn. Robertson presented an Interesting study on the subject oi the “Rome and Foreign Mission Fields of the Church." Those assist ing her were Mesd&mes Arthur Mc Millian. Tommy Cocke, L. H. Thack er. Study club met In uae home of the worthy matron, Mrs. Herbert McSpadden Monday evening when ten members were present. Mrs. Pearl Thacker was elected as study club leader. Following the study hour a delight* ful social period was enjoyed in Which refreshments were served. Meetings of the group will be held on the fourth Mondays of each month with the exception of the month of October when the meet ing will be held in the home of Mrs. W C. Brock with Mrs. Tommy Oocke as co- hostess on the second Monday evening. • • • Mrs. Leigh Stanley was hostess to the members of the Contract club Thursday afternoon Guests for the afternoon Included Mrs. Tom Marchbanks and Mrs. W. Mrs. Howard Caswell, president of the club was In charge Of a short business meeting which preceded the program. "Dreams and Accomplishments of Kathleen Norris.” was presented by Miss Ernestine Ramsey. She was followed on the program by Mrs. Bam Balters who discussed "Zona Gale. An Artist In Fiction ” Miss Maud Terrell gave a review of "Fannie Hurst. Modem Short Storv Writer." discussing her story, "One |p Three Thousand." The concluding phase of the meeting was centered about the pound table session in which prom inent women of America provided the theme. They were Alice Roose welt Longworth. Anne Morrow Lindbergh, Bess kvreater Aldridge and othera An interesting meeting was held Monday evening when the San Rrnlto Business and Professional Women’s club met in Dr. Jacoblne Kruze's office. The meeting which b the first of the new year was opened with the president. Dr. JCruze m charge. The theme of the years studv will be Women Unite For Effective Democracy.'’ Miss Ruth Barm ore, program chairman, asked that each member lead the constitution of the United States before the next regular meeting. Basic principals of govern ment and the trend of government today will provide the study for the pear. A report of the state convention held recently in Mineral Wells was read. The club plans to sponsor a benefit bridge party in the near future in which a fund will be se* aside toward the Valley centennial exhibit. . The next meeting of the club will he with Miss Barmore In Valencia Park September 23. About 25 members of the Chris tian Endeavor of the First Presby terian church enjoved an outing at Boca Chica Friday evening.
