Railroad at Two men were killed at Woodburn, Wednesday, by an extra freight train about 2:30 o'clock in the afternoon They were Frank Davis and Charles Darlington. Mr. Darlington was in stantly killed, Mr. Davis lingered unconscious all the time till 7 p. m. when he died. Both were married men, Mr. Darlington having a wife and five children, Mr. Davis a wife, ami one son. The circumstances, as related by Coroner Jas. M. Btjard, are as follows: Mr. Davis, who had recently purchas ed the Doug Lewis farm and lives on it, has been building a house and was in town with the carpenter, Mr. Darling ton, to get something thfiy needed. Near~2:30 they were starting.home in the wagon, both on a seat near the center of the wagon, and before they were out of town. A long crib belonging .4, rlulburd & Co. Klevat'^t sr.?*,'1' lot- j.-, the north side of track and the road turns sharply across the railway track at the end o/ the crib, making a crossing inside the town. Five persons were witnesses of what occurred. As the wagon reached the end of the crib and turned, the extra freight, going 20 miles an hour came up. It rang the bell twice. The team, surged across the track, and got away unhurt, but the cow catcher struck the wagon, piling up the front axle and the two men on it. The remainder ot the wagon came on ahead of the train and was dropped six rods further on. The horrified engineer stopped as quickly as he could, about a quarter of a mile from the crossing. Mr. Darlington was found to be dead, before taking him off the cowcatcher. Two severe wounds were found, lone on the temple and one near the base of the ear. Mr. Davis was breathing but unconscious. His worst injury was at the base of the skull, but his face was bloody from a wound in the forehead. It was seen from the first that he could not recover, although physicians were instantly summoned and everything 'possible done to succor him. The coroner was telephoned and he, County Attorney Touet and Mr. Leave), who is Mr. Davis' brother-in-law went down on No. 4. It was_ decided no in quest was necessary. The engineer could not see the wagon coming, nor could the men in it see the train coining west, hence no blame can attach to the engineer, if they heard the train they evidently miscalculated its position. Four men and a woman witnessed it, Joe Moorehouse and his son being close at hand. A'r. Moorehouse was at the hand car house and the son mowing weeds on the track close by. The sight of the wagon fiying into splinters and being carried dragging by the engine caused both of them to run farther from the track lest it should strike them. A man and his wife, whose names are not learned, were crossing the bridge south of the railway and saw the whole accident. The man got out and caught the team which was not scratched even. The family of Mr. Darlington had not reached the scene until after the cor oner's party arrived. As soon ab they came, the coroner turned the body over to their care, having ascertained that no inquest was.necessary. These ate all the particulars available at present. It is needless to say the community is shocked by the tfarrible accident. The men are both reputed as valued and re spected citizens. Their bereaved fam ilies are receiving all the t^elp and sym pathy that can be given but nothing can relieve their distress. It is a little remarkable that three men hiaye been killed on the railroad cross ings in this county in th^ past two weeks.—Osceola Democrat.
