At the Democratic County Convention in Leon last Thursday, James Cozad, teacher and principal of the High school was nominated as candidate for Clerk of the Courts. If elected the professor will fill the position to the best of his ability without fear or favor. Action was brought in Justice Scott's court Wednesday of last week, in the case of John Gorsuch vs. D. N. Daniel son, for the value of two heifers, one getting away and the other dying while being driven from Gorsuch's farm to Danielson's slaughter house, W. B. Kel ley attorney for defendant. Plaintiff claimed heifers were sold and delivered at the farm, defendant that they were to be delivered at the slaughter house. Brown of Leon came Fri day to visit relatives. He has lately returned from the National Encamp ment at Boston and other points in the east. At Cambridge, twelve miles from Boston he secured a piece of the Elm tree under which Washington assumed command of the American army in 1775. A stone tablet under the tree bears the following inscription: "Under this tree first took command of the American army July 53,1775." On his return he visited Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Ayr last vteek at tending the fair. He brought his fam ous pacing horse with him to enter in some of the races, but unfortunately the managers were unable to make up a race for Mr. Gill's horse. The associa tion, however, bore Mr. Gill's expenses in coming to the fair.—Mt.Ayr Record. MATRIMONIAL. Blalr-Gillen. Wallace H. Blair and Lulu A. Gillen were united in marriage at 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon., Elder G. W. Blair, of Kellerton, officiating. The ceremony was performed in the presence of the two interested families only, in the beautiful new home of the bride and groom on Tenth street, recently builded and furnished for their immediate oc cupancy. After the ceremony the small party were seated to the repast prepared by the bride herself, which repast, though liberal, soon looked small indeed. And if one may safely judge from the spread, Wallace will have no cause for com plaint as regards his young wife's proficiency in the culinary art. An enumeration of the attributes of either bride or groom would be super fluous. Both have been known to La moni and vicinity since infancy, and are known as industrious and deserving young people. Both are employees of the Herald Publishing House, in which employ they will remain for the present at least. Ayr Wednes day, trying to interest a few local capi talists in a projected "air" line from Des Moines to Port Arthur. Dr. Crofford represents that he and nine other men, all residents of the Lamoni vicinity ex cept one—Col. M. L. Temple, of Osceola —have filled articles of incorporation, and are now ready to let a few good Ringgold people in on a good thing. Although the projected route strikes the Ozark mountains, it is claimed that the road will not diverge over four miles at any point from an absolutely straight line between the terminals 800 miles apart.
