McConnell. The band boys' play given at the opera house Saturday night was well attend ed. We understand they will ^go to Blllston next Saturday. At the home of Mrs. B. Mat am on Wed nesday last, her sister, Mrs. Maud fJombs, of this place and Mr. Raleigh Hess, of St. Joe, were quietly united in the holy bonds of matrimony. The fol lowing day they came to Grand River where they remained until Friday when they went to St. Joe where they intend to reside in the future. Mrs. Frank McConnell returned Thurs day from Creston where she has been visiting the past week. Henry Cosner visited over Sunday at at"this place. A baptismal service was held at the liver Sunday by Rev. Matsler, of Des Moines. Quite an excitement was caused by a .runaway team on our streets last Fri day. The owner of the team was Dick McCarl. lie had stopped at the black smith shop and had gone inside to have son-e work done and did not tie the team. While he was inside ib became frightened and started home at a lively rate and was not stopped until it had reached the J. Brown place east of town. Nothing was destroyed and the team sustained no injuries. Mr. and Mrs. J. Crees spent Sunday at the home of E. Brammer. Mrs. Robert Brammer returned Sat urday from a visit with her daughter, Mrs. Bpha Munyon. Mrs. W. B. Howard is very ill at this writing. Miss Nellie Wadsworth spent Sunday with home folks. Jude "Vanderpoo! and wife visited at the home of Bud Brown Saturday night and Sunday. Win. Young and Marion Spray return ed Thursday from Leroy where they have been on business. A large number attended the sale held at the Fear home Saturday and everything sold well. Cyril Johnson came over from Van Wert Satnrday. Mrs. L. Van Werden, of Leon, came Saturday for a visit with her sister, Mrs. L. J. Landis. Mrs. Eva Palmer went to the country Saturday for a visit with sister, Mrs. Ida Chipp. J. P. Mr. Boeger of Cainsville was here the first of the week on business. J. T. Robertson of Davis City was in town Friday. Mr. Butler, who recently bought one of the Lovett farms southwest of town moved here last week from Iowa county. The funeral of Mrs. Eunice Bellamy Shoemake, formerly of this eity and later of Leroy and Wichita, Kas., was held at the M. E. church here Monday afternoon at four o'clock, Rev. Goodsell conducting the services. It was one of the saddest deaths our community has ever known, on account of the tragic circumstances attending it. Mrs. Shoe make accidentally took a dose of Paris green, mistaking the bottle fer one of ginger and despite all efforts to save her, she passed away, leaving a husband, a daughter Ethel and son John, besides other relatives and a host of friends to mourn her death. Mrs. Shoemake was a splendid woman, devotedly loved by all who knew her and the«tenderest sympathy is extended her sorrowing family in their bereavement. Mr. and Mrs. C. C.
