Oscar Judd, of Davis City, was here Monday and visited at the home of his brother, Newt Judd. Several of the boys went to Ot tumwa Sunday to see the ball game between the White Sox and the Ot tumwa team. The White Sox beat the Ottumwa team 2 to 1 in twelve in nings. We are told that Fred Woolley has purchased an E. M. F. auto to be de livered soon. The McCaull boys were here last week and did considerable fixing up on the farm of Robert McCaull, north of town. The funeral of Frank Stearns was held here last Monday at the home of his brother, C. S. Stearns. He died suddenly at the home of his daugh ter, Mrs. McEwen, near Chicago, passing away while he was asleep. He was one of the prominent business men of this part of the county for several years and at the time of liis death was vice president of the First National bank of litis city. lie lias a lartfe acquaintance in this part of the county who regret his untimely death. His children, Mrs. McEwen, Mrs. Simm, of New York, and son Fred, of Chicago, and his wife were pres ent at the funeral. Mr. and Mrs. Leighty and family, who have beeen spending the winter in Califoria returned last week. Mr. Leighty's health seems to be much improved. A number of our citizens went to Lamoni one day last week to see about getting the Inter-State Trail to come through here, or at least have the association try this route. Ed Phipps sold his saw mill outfit to Joe Trullinger and Ray Scott recently, and the first of the week a new threshing engine arrived for him. C. K. Daily and son Charley have moved into the J. J.
