In her intercourse with foreign nations may she always be in the right But Our Country, right or wrong."—Stephen Decatur. THE I. W. W. The Industrial Workers of the World are an international organiza tion, having its rise in the rapid de velopment some ftfteen years ago of the system called Syndacalism in France, whose purpose is to destroy the wage system, to wipe out all capi tal, and to supplant nations, states and all government by a net work of revolutionary trade organizations, in its general application the 1. W. W. aims to be universal but the even tual social system which it expects to apply to the government of industry and of society is a scheme of opera tion by syndicates, or organizations of the workers in separate trades. The "workers" areJxankly anarchist in their doctrine. "The state," says one of their leading authorities, "stinks it is too rotten either to fear or to use. We will capture the trade unions and make them the organs for successive, sharp and unexpected at tacks on a cowardly capitalism until it falls like the walls of Jericho." means of its central organization and®1" _and .,(•: ,,- Iowa mm SOCIATI The Industrial Workers have or ganized themselves into a widespread body which is quite as hostile to the ordinary labor unions as it is to capi tal and to the government. It has swept into its net many restless labor agitators, many educated persons -.r without character or conscience. _amL Tt" has a central control which can aTP1 cGinnis, plaintiffs alttorney for his ways find ne'er-do-wells who are will- services in said action, and that the ing to go anywhere and commit any!same be made a lien i.c otlo. lin membership is small. It claims but premises in proportion to|*keir inter 85,000 in the whole world. But by its unscrupulous methods, it is able Lin™ to move its instruments and agents about, to take local advantage of ev ery industrial disturbance, to in flame whole communities by its regu lar system of destructive propaganda, and thus to make every possible point for the great and universal turmoil which is its object. The men belonging to the I. W. W. always have been disturbers of the peace and rebels against lawful authority. No class has suffered from this organziation more than has the working class. When the gang of conspirators was driven out of the southwest, the men terrorized by it were glad to return to work. These men were as truly victims as were the mine owners. The 1. W. W. has been a menace in this country for some years. Most of the dangerous labor troubles have been attributable to this organization. Its members have been repeatedly in court in one state and another, but they have always returned to their mischief making upon release from custody. The time has apparently come when they must be dealt with as an organization and not individ uals. IOWA'S ENLISTMENTS. When eastern papers were shout ing the battle cry and visitors to tlv? east were coming home to relai the enthusiasm of the east for war and the display of flags and patriotic em blems in the east and deploring the apparent lack of enthusiasm in Iowa the Times-Republican, it may be re called pointed out time and again I that Iowa had never been short of the front row when it came to the I point of service and real patriotism, however slack in mouth Americanism she might appear. Iowa's volunteers have practically made up half her quota. Compare that with the east Where the flags waved wildly and the shbuts rent the air. Iowa handled her share of bonds. Iowa's reply to the appeal of the Red Cross was immediate, quietly patriotic but not the less determined and held the spot cash in hand. Iowa has been ready with her part in ev ery respect. There has been no run ning around in circles and shouting i—unless by a few politicians—but the people of the state have proved I themselves as was to be expected. They stand ready for any necessary 'sacrifice. Iowa is in the war in the Iowa way, sternly patriotic, business like, quiet, determined, safe and sane and dependable. The last thing Iowa desired was war, but when war came Iowa stood in the front rank. There has Iowa always stood in .national emergency. There she will be found first in the field and last to leave. It is not boasting or vain glory to remark upon Iowa's roster of volun teers and recall Iowa's past service. If comparison is odious to any it is to that east which complained of the coldness of the west and shot its own blank cartridges of enthusiasm while Iowans were signing their names with the recruiting officers.—Mar shalltown Times-Republican.. It is reported that the secretary of the treasury at Washington is plan ning to put out another Liberty Loan of three billions about the time the farmers receive payment for their crops. "It is easy to see who it is that must subscribe to the next issue of bonds. "I shall expect every man who is not a slacker to be at my side throughout this great enterprise," de clares the president. "In it no man can win honor who thinks of him self." Precisely as the president sug gests, every American who is not a slacker will be found through this crisis by the side of the chief execu tive. Everyone not a slacker will support the government in its con duct of the war and let politics and profits wait for fairer days. Original Notice.
