is regarded as a strong candidate.

ing of Westminster church will be
held this evening. It should have
been held on the last Wednesday
evening of March, but was postponed

eral and, well distributed on Saturday
night and Sunday. Early sown grain

wheat is generally in poor condition
as compared witn the acreage and,

the first part of the week put most of
the ground in the northern part of,
the state in good working condition

tricts and some potatoes haye been
planted. Since the warm weather
and showers grass is making a good
start, but more rain is badly needed.
Fruit buds are still nearly dormant
in the northern part of the state, but|
are in an advanced stage in southern
counties and a few days will bring
them into bloom. Apple, cherry,
plums and other fruit promise a good!
crop of bloom. Spraying of tree,
fruits will begin in southern Iowa!

NAITVOO, III., April 19.—Nauvoo's,
city election occurred Tuesday and
hut little excitement prevailed. The
following candidates were elected:
E. J. Barter for mayor Roy Jemiaon,.
aldprman first ward: Geo. Dachroth,
alderman second ward: John Hohl,
alderman third ward: Ixra Hudson,
was elected police magistrate. The
new council will take its seat in the
council ohambers May 1st.

visiting her slater, Mrs. James Joyce,
Mrs. C. J. Corkhill of Omaha, is
visiting her sister, Mrs. A. H. Arend.
