WILL BE A BUSY WEEK Teachers Will Have Reports and the Graduates Will Have Week Chock Full of Activities. The final week of school is at hand and after this coming Friday thera will bo no more books for the "Skin nays" and "Ethels" of Keokuk until next September. The last week of school which opens on Monday will have one full day holiday and there will *be a short session of school on •Friday, so that really the last week will not be a very busy affair except for the teachers who will have to make out the reports and for the grad uates of the high schol. The commencement day activities of Keokuk high school will begin on Wednesday which will be class da/. This will be a general holiday in the schools, as per custom. Wednesday afternoon the seniors will go on their annual picnic. On Thursday evening in the Elk3 club the annual Junior-senior recep tion will be held. This is the social event of commencement week, and besides the two classes present, there will be the members of the faculty and the school board and their wives. Friday evening at the Grand opera house the annual commencement ex ercises will be given. Dr. Frederick C. Tnantnign of Iowa City will be the commencement speaker. Graduation exercises for .the mem bers of the grammar school who go into high school* will foe held this coming week. Hahn, secy. —Three members of the board of directors of the Keokuk Public Li brary have been re-appointed by May or Bd S. I-ofton. The members are W. J. Fulton, W. G. Blood and Charles J. Smith. The three directors are named for a period of six years. The farmer knows better than anyone else how his wife helps to earn and carry on the farm. When he dies, he leaves it without fear in her hands. But he leaves its taxes unprotected by a citizen's vote. His widow is considered a citt :ea when the taxes fall due. Her taxes are more likely to be raised than reduced. On election day she suffers from taxa tion without representation—she has no voice in saying how her taxes shall be spent. When Iowa women vote they will help to secure better roads, better schools, better trolley service, more libraries and meeting halls, and insist upon wholesome amusements for boys and girls. The justices of the Iowa supreme court give suffrage a strong endorse ment in their decision as to the valid ity of women's votes on the question of establishing a municipal court in Des Moines.
