Plans-will be made to take care of the engineer, and to show him the avail able places for the proposed factory, and to Impress in his mind the reasons why this city should get the big plant. The armor plate plant board will in vestigate the various cities which are making a bid for the location in re gards the available sites, the charac ter of the ground available, especially as regards drainage and the water sup ply and the access to railroads and other modes of transportation. There will be a limited investiga tion of the matter of labor, it is un derstood, the possibility of seeming labor, and labor troubles if any, or the likelihood of such. Engineer Backenhus will arrive in Keokuk at 9:05 over the Burlington and leave at 1:16 in the afternoon tor cities to the south, according to his schedule. NOTICE. DAMAGE SUIT AGAINST CITY $500 Is Claim Made by Mary Payne Against City of Keokuk In Suit on File. A suit for damages amounting to $500 has •been filed in the district court by Mary Payne against the 1 city of Keokuk. It is alleged in the petition on Die that plaintiff slipped on some ice on the sidewalk on John son street between First and Water streets, and that she fractured her ankle. The city is alleged to have been negligent in allowing Ice to ac cumulate and remain on the .walk, and in allowing a little spring at the iside of the walk to overflow the walk. B28 Btondeaa OLD RESIDENT ANSWERS CALL But He Was Born In Sweden In 1838, Came to the United 8tates at the Age of Thlr-' ty-ona.' Peter J. Gunnarson, a resident of Kpokuk for over forty years, and a man highly esteemed in this city, died at his home, 725 Concert street, at 1:00 o'clock this morning at the age of seventy-nine years and four days. Death was caused by paraly sis. Mr. Gunnarson had suffered three strokes in the past eleven years, the last one, Thursday of the pre ceding week. Peter John Gunnarson was iborn in Sweden, February 28, 1838. There he reoedved his education, taking the military training that was required of all youths. March 5, 1867, 'he was married to Was Sophia Johnson. They came to this country in 1869, moving to Keokuk five years later. This city had been Mr. Gunnareon'3 home since. Had 'he lived ten days longer be and his wife would have celebrated their golden -wedding an niversary, and it was' hoped that he might be spared to enjoy that event ful day with relatives and friends. He is survived by bis wife and four daughters, Mlas Augusta Gunnarson, Mrs. A. O. Peterson and Mrs. B. O. Eckland. of this city, and Mrs. I. A. West of Denver, Co|o. There are ateo four grandchildren who live here and a sister who resides in Sweden. Mr*. West arrived here this after noon. Mr. Gunnarson' was of a quiet dispo sition, upright and honest in his dealings with his fellow .man and highly esteemed for his sincerity and amiable qualities. The sorrow of his death is tempered by Ibe conviction that, having Colly discharged the duties of a husband, father and friend, he has gone td his Just re ward. He was a religious man, who work ed ei* days In the week, but honored the Lord's day. He was a faithful member of the SwedJSh M. [United Press Leased Wire Service.] CHICAGO. March 5.-*y ten a. m. today, James O'Leary'a strong box, said to have contained anywhere between $200,000 and $650,000 in election ibets, was practically emp tied. O'Leary announced yesterday after ttfe president took the oath' that he would begin paying ofT to day. When his saloon opened, a long string of winners were waiting. O'Leary, famous betting commis sioner, refused to pay bets last falf after Wilson's election, contending that the issue would be in doubt until after the electoral college had assembled. Later he decided to wait until the inaugural. "I'll pay every bet." he said today. 'Tve been here thirty years and no man evar knew me to welch on a. bet." NOTICE.
