George Gipp's Funeral.
LAURIUM, Mich., Dec. 17.—Busi
ness houses here and in Calumet will
close tomorrow afternoon during the
funeral of George Gipp, Notre Dame
football star, who died last Tuesday.
A movement to erect a monument
.on Cartier field, South Bend, Indiana,
to perpetuate the memory of Gipp
.has been started by members of the
University .club of Chicago and
alumni of Notre Dame.
Students at Notre Dame plan to
erect a tablet in G-ipp'B honor.

Pratt Wilt Not Play.

ANN ARBOR. Mich., Dec. 17.—
Derrill Pratt, traded by the Yankees
to the Boston Red Sox has decided
to quit major league baseball and
'will not play with Boston next year,
he said here today.
Pratt has signed to coacfo the Uni
versity of Michigan baseball team
for three year§ and says he is through
with professional baseball. His con
tract contains a clause which forbids
his playing professional ball.

on his way to Seattle today where

The Keokuk school levy for taxes
for 1920 and 1921 is the lowest of
twelve representative cities of Iowa.
The Keokuk levy will be 5U.8 mills.
The budget this doming year will be
$65,000 larger than last year for the
reason that the board has had to
provide for a large increase in
teachers' and janitors' salaries, take
care of a deficit of $18,000 of last
year, due to the increase in salaries
granted teachers last spring, and to
provide the money for purchaso of a
site for the new high school building.
Fort Madison, which is next lowest
in tax rate to Keokuk will have a
levy of 63 mills, ten mills more than
