at their home last week.
Peter Kilgor is erecting a barn on
his property, in Kimbailton, and will
soon begin the erection of his house.
Willis Rattenborg was assisting in
the post-ofiice, (luring the absence ol'

tour.
Hans Mardersen was down to Kim
ball ton last week and purchased a
horse from Hans C. Mad.sen, the
jeweler.
John Lersted drove eighteen bead
of fine fat cattle to the markets last
Saturday and received a good round
price l'or the same.
A brother of Mrs. Clarence Jacob
sen is expected to arrive froiu Den
mark, in about, two weeks, to make
this his future home.
Claus Hansen and Carl Schroeder
drove up to Kimballton Sunday dur
ing the storm and had an upset and
great time getting home.
Miss Mary Nielsen came out from
Harlan this week and visited with
her father, Hans Nielsen, the
tnre merchant at Kimballton.
Torvel Jensen returned home last
Tuesday, from Minnesota, where he
had been some time visiting. He will
remain here now and carpenter.
Carl Petersen, who has been sick
for some time, troubled with his
heart, is now able to be up again,
much to the delight of bis friends.
Hans C. Madsen, the jeweler pur
chased a horse. Monday, of Erick
Jacobsen and will be able to take in
all forms of amusement this spring.
Anders Jespnsen was up to Elk
horn last week and got ready for the
spring amusements by purchasing a
new buggy of S. C. Pedersen & Co.
J. H. Peterson, the barber in Elk
horn, is on the lookout for a good
driving horse, so that if any has one
to sell, they will know where to go.
The Kimballton Lumber Co. have
erected a new lumber shed, on the
north ot their lot, in which to store
some of their good grade of lumber.
Many of the students in the college
are getting ready to quit, as most of
thetn usually work, during the sum
mer to get means to put them through
college.
P. H. Anderson, east of Kimball
ton, purchased a bill of lumber last
week and as soon as spring comes will
have one ot the finest residences in
the township.
The pool hall is closed up and is
not doing business these days. The
people have been fighting it, for some
time, as they think it kee^s the young
men up too late.

The party of young people that
was to have gathered at the home of
James Johnson, near Elkhorn, was
postponed on account of the storin
without.
Ilolger Petersen returned last Tues
day week from Uysted, Nebraska,
where he has been attending school
and expects to work during the year
for Peter Kilgor.
Walter Jensen, who has been at
tending school in Des Moines, re
turned home last week and we under
stand will again return to school to
work after a short vacation.
Chris. II. Christensen was down to
Kimballton, one day last week, and
purchased a bill of lumber and will
have as large a barn :\s any one in the
county, as soon as the weather will
permit.
Martin Esbeck has just completed a
very fine and convenient stand for
house plants that is very neat and
ornamental. It is constructed from
galvanized iron and shows superior
work.
The church, at Elkhorn. held its
quarterly meeting, last Thursday, to
transact such business as would come
before such a body. The church is in
a prosperous condition and getting
furni- along nicely.
The engine, that Claus Schrader
placed in his blacksmith shop at Elk
horn has refused, so far, to pull or
exert, any power. An expert has
been sent for, who, will soon no doubt
soon have it all right.
W. J. Clapper and four of Harlan's
business men were out last Saturday
attending to business matters. He is
the adminstiator of the Frank Rich
ardson, deceased, property and is
straightening things up.

and purchased seventy dollars worth
of furniture to beautify and make his
home pleasant and comfortable.
Last Monday evening, as John
Nelson butter maker, at West Hamlin
creamery, was returning home from
Exira. his horse became entangled in
the wire and had not assistance been
near it might have done much dam
age.
Julius Sorensen, brother of Peter
Sorensen. the harness maker in Kim
ballton, was over from bis home,
north of North Branch, visiting Peter
and getting some horses, which ran
away from home and came back to
where he purchased one not long ago.
About sixteen of the students, boys I
and girls, of the college in Elkhorn
got together last Sunday evening and
whilst, the sky was cold without, the
life blood was warm within ami at
the proper time oysters were served
to which all sat down with a reli-h.
Last Monday occurred the annual
township meeting. Next Monday
will be the annua! meeting of the I
board of directors at which time the
old board go out and the new ones
elected are sworn in. Teachers for
the spring terms will be hired at this
time.
This last, week, Nels Jensen sold
monuments to the following persons
who will erect them over the mounds
of those they love, who have been
laid to rest in the cemetery at Elk
horn. Their names are Christian
Tomasen, llasmusen Thertelsen and
Kev.Vig.
The Woman's Aid Society of the
hurch. at Kimballton met, Thurs
day, at the house of Jens Hansen.
The ladies of the church have done a
great deal of good work, during the
past, years, and their work has been of
that nature, (bat makes them the real
Samaritans of the church.
There is strong talk among the
share holders of the Kimballton and
Elkhorn lumber companies ot consol
idating capital and starting a yard in
Audubon and have Kimballton and
Elkhorn as branch offices. This plan
would add materia'ly to the conven
ience of both companies and be a good
financial venture.
Spring is now here and all of von
who intend to build, either a1 house
or barn, do not be afraid to consult

Hans Johnson, was again elected
director at Kimballton. He has serv
ed in that capacity for years, last year
being the only one he has missed for
years. He is an efficient servant, and
was the only patron, outside of the
directors, who with his wife attend
ed the teachers' meeting held at the
Center school house a short time ago.
Albert and Chas. Petersen, brothers
from Sioux City, who have been at
tending school in Elkhorn this win
ter, have decided to remain here the
coming summer and will work for
Nis Petersen and Jim McMarin. This
is the second term for the boys and
with commendable ambition, they
expect yet to finish their course, and
fit them for higher work in life.
One of the most pleasant parties of
the sea&on was that last Monday night
when the evening repose and quietness
of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Marcussen was
broken by the whole population
breaking in on them and starting the
ball of mirth to unraveling, stopping
ODly
when the tangle had wrapped
itself about everyone present and
bound them together in the close em
brace of its good fellowship.
Miss Anna Nelson, who teaches in
the college met her brother who she
has not seen for ten years. If we un
derstand properly the meeting was
almost romantic. They had not seen
each other in ten years and she
thought him in Denmark. He came
to Elkhorn as a travelling salesman
and happening to hear the name,
called and tound they were sure
enough brother and sister. After a
pleasant visit he went on to his work
again.
The teachers and the pupils of the
Elkhorn school have prepared a pro
gram, for an entertainment to be giv~
en Friday afternoon, beginning at one
o'clock to which patrons and friends
are invited. Mr. Jackson and Miss
llosa Larsen, the teachers have pre
pared a splendid entertainment, and
those, who will go will be entertain
ed and instructed. These two teach
ers are live, energetic persons, who
are adapted to their work and have
given good satisfaction.
Dissolution Notice.
The partnership, heretofore exist
ing between Martin N. Esbeck and I
Andrew N. Esbeck has beea dissolved
by mutual consent, Andrew N. Es
beck having sold his one-third share
in the business to J. J. Esbeck, for
merly of Audubon. All accounts re
ceivable are payable to Esbeck Bros,
who also pay all accounts payable.
Taking this occasion to thank all I
our old patrons for past patronage
and hoping a continuance of your
patronage and as many more as possi
ble, we shall continue as heretofore to

Last. Thursday night, at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Lars Hansen, south
west of Elkhorn. Mr. Nis 0. Larson
and Miss Sena Fissalhoy, the Kev.
Yig performing the ceremony that
united these people as husband and
wife through the fleeting shadows of
sunshine and shade.
Mr. Larson lias been a popular citi
zen (or years and has been identified
with the business interests of Elk
horn and enjoys a wine circle of
friends and acquaintances. He was
it one time editor of the Elkhorn
paper and is now the efficient post
master
The bride is a lady of refinement,
well qualified to gracefully preside
over the domestic duties of a bright
and attractive home. She is well and
truly fitted for the new and noble

faithfully strive to make life happy
and radiant with her love and the
genial sunshine of her disposition.
After the ceremony the friends
present showered their best wishes and
fondest, hopes upon them. On Fri
day Mr. and Mrs. Larson departed
for Omaha to spend a few days when
they will return home to follow the
«ven tenor oi their way.

ship for years where she is known for
her womanly traits of love for her
home and devotion to her triends and
associates.
The large crowd that was present
on the happy occasion of their mar
riage all testify as to the real worth of
these two worthy young people and
wish them Jong years of wedded life,
lull of love and hope and promise
that will abide with them as they
glide smoothly down the stream of
life.

The Kimballton Gymnasium Club
will give a party Saturday, Mch. 23,
in the hall in Kimballton, for the
benefit of the new hotel. Everyone
is invited and guaranteed a novel
