Lohner ,) Bomberger of Harlan. The Best Fruit Ran in Iowa Received Many Premiums at Des Moiaes. Two New Varieties. W. M. Bomberger was very success ful in his display of apples at the meeting of the State Horticultural So ciety in Des Monies last week. His display was a large oue, aggregating some thirty buauels aud a consider able number of varieties. He took second prize for the state on best collection, second on bsBt ten box es and first on best two new seedling varieties. The prizes consisted of a sil ver trophy cup, a gold pratcb, and soma money premiums. The new varieties shown were, one a cross between the Jonathan and Grimes' Golden, the other a cross be tween tha Jonathan aud Willow Twig. Both crosses are a mighty good apple Mr. Bomberger expected to bring his prize winuing fruit home show in his window at the Swaiu meat mar ket, but Mrs. Governor Carroll desired to buy it at a fancy price, so he sold it to her.—Harlan Republican. Thieves One night last week some party or parties went to W. R. Grimes' farm west of town and roped one of his fine yearling calves, led it to a' straw pile some distance from tbe house and butchered it, leaving the' head on the ground.—Manilla Times.
