A meeting of the directors and mem
bers of the Howard County Agricultu
ral Sbciety will be held at the office of
the Secretary in New Oregon Iowa, on
June 2lat. 18G6, at pno o'clock P. M- o!
sni I day. to take iuto consideration and
to concert some scheme of action upon
the l»dlowing general propositions, il
thought advisable.
1st. take steps t© procure as
nearly centrally located as may be, a
farm of such dimensions a3 may be
needed for a model Agricultural farm,
upon which is to be located the grGundf.
for the annual Fair of the society from
year to year.
2nd. The advantages claimed in part,
for snail farm are &s follows:
A Fair ground proper, 40 rod3 by
60 contains 15 acres. To enclose this
will require 200 rods of fence, or 3 300
feet in length. A fence 8 feet, high
around th'S would require 26,400 feel
of lumber.
To enclose quarter section would
require CIO rod3 of fence, which with a
fence of .iur boards, (m all 2 feet in
width,1 requires only 21,120 foef, being
5.280 feet lc^s to fence the farm than
would be needed to encloso the Fair
Ground, with an eig''»t feet fence*
Should tins plan be adopted, instead
of the ground for holding the annaal
fair only, every nail driven? and every
board putin place would practically be
°f every days use while the Fair
ground being used only once each year
would be left the remaining portion o
the year to go to ruin, without prac
tical benefit to the society.
3rd. On this farm could be kept
not only stock needed to improvo the
flcks and herds of the members of
the society, but any manufacturer of
agricultural implements, it is thought
would pltc« their
machmery
idenier.fs ur ni the farir: fT trial, doiu\
ting the implements or machine, to the
society, to which the premium might
be awarded, ic being understood of
curse, that tho successful machine or

4th. It would open up a mode and
l.^ans cf testing the different varieties
of seeds tho different modes of farm
oultivatiuii: of ft eding and trciting va
rious kinds of stock, and of testing the
claims of rival agricultural implements.
These questions are deemed of suffi
cient importar.ee that we feet to urge
every person interested in the future of
the county to be in attendance to nid
and cnconrage the clu i'pr^v v.iih their
counsel ana advice.
