Her man sustained a slightly damaged •wrist bat Mrs. Teslow was uninjured. Man From the Emerald Isle Beats Man Hailing From the Land of the Midnight Sun. The following article was contri buted by a well known local horse shoe player: In last week’s Posten an item ap peared stating that Mr. Knute Ham re was the champion horse shoe pitcher of Winneshiek county. Now the county is big and some feel that Mr. Hamre is Lke the Irishman who made a remark he could lick anyone in the house, but nobody answered him. Then he said he could lick anyone in the city; still no one ans wered. Then he said I can lick anyone in the county. Just then a! fellow jumped up and smashed him one, and knocked him down. The Irishman got up and exclaimed, by gosh I took in too much territory. Now Mr. Hamre justly won the championship of the Decorah horse shoe club, and has the honor of wear ing the belt. But we have amongst us a man who walks along the street and doesn’t say much, and no one was aware of him keeping the Pos ten. But anyway he got hold of the news. His name is J. P. Bums, and he has Irish blood in his veins. Af ter reading the article he remarked that (den Havre Gampen) can’t beat me. No one raised on (Maasaa og Havre graut) can beat me, and he challenged Mr. Hamre to pitch him the best two out of three of 50 points each for the title. The first game was won by Burns 50 to 34; Bums pitched 17 ringers and Hamre 11. But the next game the tables were turned, Hamre win ning 50 to 23, pitching 17 ringers to Bums eight. The next game was neck and neck, and there was fire in the eye of the man from the Emer ald Isle throughout the whole game and when it was finished Burns had won by a score of 50 to 45, pitching 25 ringers to Ham re’s 24. There never was less than one or two ringers on at a time and many times three, and one time there were four ringers on. Each player throwed three double r ngers in the last game, and it was the best game ever pitched on the grounds, and quite ***-••» a number of fans were present. This week their is a chatlege out Nor way vs. Ireland.
