AIIDruglsU23CaU MINING NOTES. I News was recoived from St. Louis yesterday that Uncle Johnnie Lawrence is vory ill of lagrippo. Ho has been ill for some days and is reported as very weak. New No. II opening at tho Ar nold mine is bomg rapidly com pleted and will bo ready for use in a few days. This will largely increase the output of that mine. There wore a dozen colored delegates to tho couventlon, and thoy were uniformly in their seats, but were not in evidence while the discussion was in progress. Fuol. Tho above was clipped from the report of the union miners' convention that was held at Indianapolis, Ind., last week, in the Fuel, a mining journal. This goes to show that the col ored brother has no part in the deliberation of that August body. Coal will probably be coal very shortly. The resumption of the country's industries is bound to call for fuel to carry them on. Cold weather is a factor with the retail dealer, but to use the bulk of the product the wheels have to be kept humming. Both mine owners and miners' association in England are advo eating a minister of mines as a new cabinet ofiice. The number of coal mines in tho country iB 8,800, employing nearlj' a mil lion persons, and mining inter ests are deemed of sufficient magnitude to demand an execu tive office in the cabinet.
