was chief of police at Madisonville
and later chief guard at the mines
at Zeigler Ill has been appointed
night marshal in this city and will

Hamby is a fearless officer and a
man that is a credit to any com

The body of Joe Orews aged
fiftyfour years was found hang
lug in a barn on the farm of
Charles Smith near Bennetts
town last night
Crews had been missing since
last Monday and the body had
evidently been hanging in the
barn eVer since as it was beginI
sing to decompose and odor
from it is what attracted the at I
tention of Charles Taylor and MrI
Smith who found it
Crews used a rope hitch ° rein
about ten feet long which he had
tied about a tier pole and thenI
climbing on a block of wood had
fastened the rope about his neck
and kicked the block from under I
him A note was found in his
pocket stating that his feet gave
him much trouble and that no
body cared for him and while he
hated to take his own life heJ
hoped God would have niercy 1
and receive his soul
Crews was related to several
of the leading families of this
section of the county His wife
is dead and he had no children
Last seen of him was last Mon
day when he bought some mor I
phine tablets from Dr Gates at
Herndon stating that he wanted
to use them to relieve the pain i
in his feet
