WARMING UP
The Various Candidates are
Each Looking to Their
Own Interest
As the time draws near for the
primary the various candidates
are all moving briskly looking
after their own special interests
This office has been crowded
with orders from the different
candidates of various kinds Alli
seem to he convinced that print
ers ink is an important factor
in convincing the public of the
merits of the respective candi
dates
datesFrom
From the present indications
the campaign will proVe to be the
mostly hotly contested one that
the people of Knox county has
ever witnessed The field is full
of candidates any of them per
haps worthy of the position h
is seeking and in many instan
ces there are from four to seven
candidates seeking the same of
fice and with their friends work I
ing for their interest makes it
indeed interesting to a great
many throughout the county
It has been the aim of the AD
V to leave every candidate
to puddle his own canoe and
whoever may be the choice of
the people will be supported by
the ADVOCATE
Of course the editor is not dif
ferent from all other men in so
far as not to have any personal
preference among the list of can
didates but it has been and al
ways will he the purpose of the
ADVOCATE to remain so far as it
is possible neutral when there
is a family fight on hand We
are ready at all time to wage
warfare upon our political ene
lInes but when troubles arise in
our own household we shall try
to pour oil upon the troubled
waters and make peace in so far
as it is possible
We have permitted our neigh
borhood editors from the various
parts of the county to express
the sentiments of the commun
ity in which they represent This
has been done without having in
view the detriment of any other
candidate
Let the campaign warm up
lets have a full vote polled and
whoever the choice of the major
ity of the people is shall bo the
representative of the Republican
party for the next four years

Some of the candidates for I

trying to make their race upon
the merits and demerits of Dr

impossible for us to discover any
connection whatever between

If a candidate has no other rea
son to oller for his election than
that he supported or Pvsec1a
certain candidate for Congress
we think to use a commonplace
expression that he is about out
of soupgrease
soapgreaseIt
It is an insult to the good sense
and decency of the community
for a candidate to approach a
voter and ask his support on the
ground that he had voted or
worked for u certain candidate
for Congress
Such a candidate is the enemy
of the Republican party He is
seeking to create division and
shire in the ranks of the party
hoping thereby to gain personal
advantage
Many thoughtful Republicans
are beginning to consider this
phase of the question and are pre
paring to see that no candidate

the party
