The editor of the Ledger is a membbr of the party that deliberately etole the Presidency of the United States and he has never yet uttered a word against this monumental theft of the age. Ab be sanctioned and approved that by his silence, he is not in a very good position to discuss alleged thefts by other parties. THE STATE CAMPAIGN. The Democratic State campaign opened under circumstances indicating a rouB ing victory in November. The party is more completely united than for years. Governor Beckham's able administration of public affairs is among the very strong est arguments in his behalf, and the pre diction is made that he will win by an old-time majority. The people of Ken tucky do not want another such dis graceful state of affairs as that brought about by the Taylor-Powers-Finley crowd, and they will see that the political gang now in charge of the g. o. p. do not get their clutches on the State government. The formal opening of the campaign at Winchester last Saturday was attended by a crowd estimated at 8,000 or 10,000. It was not only a large crowd, but it was enthusiastic, evidencing the determina tion of the rank and file to rally almost as one man to the support of the ticket in November. This gathering of the clans was followed by another rousing meeting at Harrodsburg Monday, where Gov. Beckham and Congressman Ollie James spoke to a crowd of about 5,000 people. The party leaders say the Dem ocrats are better united in the Eighth Congressional district than for many year?. In Meicer County especially there is no disaffection, and the Demo cratic voters are solid in their support of the Sute ticket. The campaign was also opened Monday at Carrollton, R'chinond, Prestonburg, New Castle, Hopkinsville, Stanton and Benton, where good crowds heard Democratic speakers. Statistics Gleaned From Reports at the Re cent Se-sion of Kentucky Confer cnceAililitionnl News of the Appointments. Mit. J J. Dickey, of Washing!on,de- livered au address at Friday's session of Sou h Methodist coi.fernco at Cynth:- ana. Last Sunday marked the beginning of the pastorate of the Rev. W. G. Mc Oready, D. D., at the Church of the Nativity. Two large and representative congregations entered into and listened attentively to the" services and sermons. Dr. McCready is simply a willing and anxious worker in the Master's vineyard Ho is first and foremost, genial, kindly, sympathetic aud earnest, full of the spirit, consecrated ond elrquent, thus practically demonstrating by his work the Christian faith he represents. He not alone builds up his parish and adds numerical strength and zealous Chris tians to his charge, but he touches every life with which he comes in contact. He is aline speaker; his sermons and talks being short and extemporaneously given are delightful, instructive and comfort ing. Being in the primo of his ministry, he will certainly lay a broader and deep er foundation for this parish and his able efforts are sure to give an impetus to the work of the Lord in our city which will tell now and upon future generations.
