HUNTER'S DARK LANTERN METHODS. The Democrats should not be fooled as to the methods of the Republican State Campaign Committee. The Chairman of the Republican committee is Dr. W, God frey Hunter, whose way of conducting a campaigu is unique. He now has secret headquarters at the Gait House in Louis ville and is conducting the campaign of bis party behind cloeed doors. He is endeavoring to create the im pression throughout the State that the Republicans are disorganized and are taking no interest in the election, He is also endeavoring to create the impression among the Democrats that Belknap haB no chance and that his followers have practically given up the fight. How ever, it is learned from absolutely trust worthy sources that Dr. Hunter is UBing all his skill to effect a complete organi zation in every precinct in the State and that all of this is being done with the greatest secrecy and with the employ ment of all the dark lantern methods known. It is learned from the same sources that the Republicans have a larger campaign fund this year than ever before and they are relying on Bimply buying the majority for Belknap in order to get this State in line in the Presidential race in 1904. Realizing the importance of the fight this fall, the Republican National Com mittee has Eent thousands of dollars to Kentucky and this vast sum has been greatly augmented by subscriptions from big corporations and by contributions of the Federal machine, which, contrary to the law, has forced minor employes of the government to give money from their salaries. It has long leen Dr. Hunter's boast that he can carry Kentucky if he has the money to buy the votes. The Democrats in the coming elrction ehould show Dr. Hunter that the Republican party backed by the national administration, the cor porations and the Federal machine can not buy the suffrage of the people of Kentucky. They should ehow him that it makes no ditT-ronco to what extent the State is iboded with money that the vote of the Commonwealth cannot be purchased and that they believe in ma jority rule. i RETURNS TO TUB FOLD, Anil Mr. Kinsolving Will Stump Kentucky For the Democrats To Speak in Maysville. Mt. Sterling, Kv October 1. II. B. Kinsolving, who two years ago refused to affiliate with the Democratic party on account of the Music Hall convention matter, and who is one of the strongest speakers in Kentucky, is now in perfect accord with the party, and beginning with next Monday at Sandy Hook, Elliott County, he will be on the stump until the first Tuesday in November. In the Ninth district he will speak at Maysville and Brooksvillo, the dates to be named, Mr. Kinsolving eays the sound money Democrats of '90 and the Brown Demo crats must return to the party and by an overwhelming majority give the Re publicans euch a rebuke that a recur rence of Taylorism may never again briug to reproach the fair name of Ken- tucky. Mr. Kinsolving is willing for a jumi uiFuuasion whii any accreuiteu speaker, from Yerkes down. FRANK & 00. CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT. All Parties United to Secure Home Govern ment For the Cities. Judge Wall represented the Ninth district at the meeting of the Committee on Constitutional Amendment at Lex ington on Sept. 30th. The welfare of the State at large and her cities and towns is the object of the amendment, and this committee was appointed by the Commercial Convention that met laBt spring, which was composed of more than one thousand of the best business men cf this State and waB entirely non partisan. The leading Republicans and Demo crats of Lexington met the committee, including the editors of the three papers and the leading workers in both parties. Messrs. Beckham and Belknap and the other nominees for State oflices having already endorsed the amendment, it was agreed that the two parties should unite as to the amendment and endeavor to carry it at the polls. Postmaster Elkins and Col. Juo. R. Allen will give it special attention, and Editors Roberts, Brecken ridge and Walton endorse it. It simply asks for home rule in the management of municipal taxes. Lex ington and Maysville know the needs of its city government better than the members cf the Legislature. Maj. Wood Rampant. Grcknuj', Ky., Sept. 28. Maj. A. T. Wood, of Mt. Sterling, spoke here this afternoon. About one hundred voters were present at the opening, but one half left before the end. His speech was of the violent kind. He Baid he could not speak for Belknap, but if he were Governor he would pardon Caleb Powers the first oflicial act of his life. Ho said that if an attempt was made after this election to count Republicans out there would be bayonets to overcome before it could be done. i The late Mrs. Marmaduke, of St. Louis, was a first cousin of Mr. David Wood, of this city.
