From Beckbam Down, Said Robert Breck
inridge at Stanford.
Stanford, Ky., October 12. Robert J.
Breckinridge today took the stump, and
made hie first speech since he withdrew
from the race for the Democratic nomi
nation for Governor. He stated that be
fore the nomination be had opposed the
contention that Beckham was eligible.
The matter had been fought out within
in the party, and as a Democrat he was
in line for the ticket that finally bad
been nominated from Beckbam down.
He made a forcible speech, which caught
the crowd.

Died of a Broken Heart.
New York, Oct. 14. Johnson Chase
Hull, the oldest letter carrier in New
York, and possibly in the country, fell
dead while standing beside the coflln
containing the body of his brother,
William. The doctors say ho died
from a broken heart.
The Pardono Were Forged.
San Francisco, Oct. 14. James H.
Darling, Joseph White, Cornelius
Cokes and John L. Moore, military
prisoners at Alcatraz, have been re
leased by the authorities on pardons
which it is now discovered were
forged.
Yokohama, Sept. 2, via Victoria, B.
C, Oct. 14. The United" States steam
ships Kentucky, New Orleans, Oregon,
Wisconsin, Cincinnati and Annapolis
are among the United States vessels
in Japanese ports.

Italian King's Visit to Paris.
Paris, Oct 14. Every precaution
has been taken to secure the safety of
the Italian sovereigns, who will arrive
Wednesday. Six hundred and thirty
five arrests have been made during the
last few days of tramps or suspected
anarchists, all of whom will be detain,
ed in custody until after the king's departure.
