IN'ew York News 1 In hi own State, (where he ia beat known, Mr. Roosevelt to-day faces the prospect of certain defeat. Ho will have to work miracles within the next 11 months to carry New York. Unfortu nately for him, when he plays hardest at pure politics he mars most his own chances of winning. As Representative John Sharp Will iams, the new Democratic leader of the House, said in a recent interview, "The chances of a Democratic victory are bet ter with Roosevelt as the Republican can didate than with any other man, and yet I am sorry to see it, as, if he should be elected, it meanB a threat to the peace of nations. The country distrusts him, the business interests have no confidence in him, and his public acts are reacting against him now." Wireless Trolley a Success. lAtlautic City Telegram to the Chicago Record Herald. The "wireless" trolley system invented by Leon V. Pullen, of Philadelphia, was cuccesafully tested over a mile of steam railroad track to-day. The invention does away with the third rail through the use of a magnet. The equipment, which is easily adjusted, consists mainly of a high ly magnetizid bar running the entire length of the car. Tho feed wire is buried in the ground. At intervals of eighteen feet a metal cap four inches in diameter comes to the surface. This cap is harm less and has no connection with the feed wire.
