An east bound Michigan line car carrying a heavy load of passengers hurrying home at the close of the day was struck by a Grand Trunk passenger train Friday evening at Gratiot ave nue and Dequlndere street More than 34 persons were Injured, the heavy double truck car being carried 200 feet down tho track from the point of col lision and being almost demolished. Every ambulance in the city was hur ried to tho scene. Seven of the injur ed were conveyed to hospitals and 27 were taken to their homes. No one was killed, though some of the injured may die. ALDERMAN SENT TO PRISON. c 0 A L He Was Convicted af a Violation of the Election Laws. Chicago, Jan. 10. Alderman John Brennan, of tho 18th ward, Friday night was taken to the house of cor rection to servo a sentenco of one year for violation of the election laws. Tho specific charge against Brennan was that in the last judicial election In tho spring of 1903 ho purchased votes in the 18th ward in the interests of Judgo Elbrldgo Hanecy. At tho time of Brennan's conviction Herbert E. Kent and Charles A. McCarlo were also con victed of the same offense, but receiv ed shorter sentences. THE STRIKE ENDED. The Chicago Livery Drivers Ordered Back to Work. Chicago, Jan. 16. The strike of tho livery drivers, which since its begin ning several weeks ago has caused much annoyance to mourners and In terference at funerals, was ended Fri day and tho union men were ordered back to work. A committee of own ers and drivers had a conference at which it was Agreed to recognize tho "closed shop." It' was agreed that the wage scale shall be arbitrated as soon as possible by a committeo of tho unions and employers. St. Louis, Jan. 16.
