Officials hero aro anxiously awaiting the develop ments In the mystery surrounding tho death of Miss Sarah Schaefer, subse quent to tho return of; Heitger from JBloomlngton, and Chief of Police Rus sell and Sheriff Smith, of Bedford, who are reported to have left Louis ville llonday afternoon for this city. " NIn response to a telegram from H. Hahn, a clgarmaker of Louisville, who declared ho could conduct officers to a woman who might bo able to throw light upon tho mystery, Chief of Po lice Russell and Sheriff Smith went to Louisville to secure an interview with tho woman. Tho officers inter viewed her and claim to have secured valuable information. Before disclos ing any Information It is said tho .woman exacted a pledge from the offi cers that her namo should be with held from publicity in connection with the investigation. . Tho city council Monday night held a secret executive session. Nothing was given out as to the action taken. It was decided to let tho reward re main at $1,000, as at present, and tho matter of increasing it or withdrawing it was left to a special committee. Officials say there Is absolutely no evi dence that Justifies their further in vestigation so far as Jacob Heitger Js concerned. His namo has been mentioned, they say, solely on account (of tho report that ho had called on JMlss Schaefer a few evenings prior to her death. VIOLATED SCALE AGREEMENTS.
