Heavy running ice in the river has kept back the expected re ceipts. The market, taken as a whole, was regarded as a very satisfactory one. Rejections decreased to about 1G per cent, and these were mostly con fined to low grade types of the old and new crop. Iu the new crop common and mixed trashes were dull, really good red tips and colory lugs scarce and in good demand. Medium and good leaf were the strongest features, with some ir regularity duo to poor light and hard condition of the samples. Flue and fancy leaf were spar ingly offered, about 40 bhds selling at prices ranging from 12c to 18c. In the old, common smokers and other low grades under Go contin ue the weak spot of the sales, and the most dis appointing to shippers. In other types there was a fair sprinkling of good plug stock, cutting leaf and colnrv strippers. Fine red fillers were scarce and a bid or two higher, and there was aa entire absencH of fancy leaf and cigarette wrappers abovo 14c.
